James N. McAlister, Jr.

James Norman “Mack” McAlister, Jr. of Honea Path, 61, husband of Vickey Parker McAlister, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021.

Born in Nashville, TN, he was a son of the late James Norman McAlister, Sr., and Grace Nell Barnett McAlister.  He retired from Boeing and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the 101st Airborne 187th Infantry Rakkasans Division. 

Survivors include daughter, Alyssa McAlister of Simpsonville; sons, James Norman McAlister, III, Braydon Parker McAlister, Chance Grayson-Lee McAlister, all of the home, Mason and Micah McAlister, both of TN; sisters, Cyndee Caron and Peggy Galloway, both of TN; brother, Rick McAlister of Greenville; three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held October 11, 2021, at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

David “Sonny” Johnson

Clyde David Johnson of Pelzer, 77, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Wallace Anthony and Nancy Elizabeth McWhorter Johnson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and owner of Johnson’s Plumbing and Electrical in Pelzer.

He is survived by daughter, Pamela Beth Morgan of Decatur, AL; sons, Kevin David Johnson of Anderson, Mark Chapman of Pelzer and Derrick Shane Johnson of Williamston; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was October 3, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A Celebration of Life service followed in the mortuary chapel.

Rev. George Hodge

 Rev. George Vance Hodge of Belton, 69, husband of Kathryn Irene Freeman Hodge, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Born in Bennettsville, he was a son of Ethel Lee Lovett Hodge of Avon Park, FL and of the late Alvie Vance Hodge. He was a retired Church of God minister and a member of Fountain Inn Church of God.

Additional survivors include his children, Eric Vance Hodge of Williamston, Henry Howard Hodge of Pelzer, and Kathryn Denise Wooten of Pelzer; sisters, Janice Altman of Avon Park, FL, Willie Mae Truitt of Haines City, FL, and Connie Faye Todd of Avon Park, FL; brother, William Eddie Hodge of Sebring, FL; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held October 2, in Gray mortuary chapel.

Cecil Bennefield

Cecil Leon Bennefield of Pelzer, 81, husband of the late Johnnie Gallamore Bennefield, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Cecil Leon Bennefield Sr. and Nancy Ann Lollis Bennefield. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad and was a member of Wren Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Tammy Chapman of the home and Missi Paige of Piedmont; sisters, Vrenda Morrow, Helen Waddell and Barbara Hayes;seven  grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 6, at Gray Mortuary Pelzer.

The service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 7, in the mortuary chapel followed by burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Memorials may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd. S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

   The family is at the home.

Johnney Moore

Johnney Ray Moore of Pelzer, 68, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Born in Alexandria, VA, he was a son of the late Clarence Leo Moore and Lois Reid Moore Owen.  He retired from Palmetto Loom Reed Co. and was a Baptist.

Survivors include daughter, Angela Gravley of Piedmont; son, Ray Moore of Greenville; siblings, Donnie Moore of Pelzer, Betty Jo Crews of Simpsonville, Joyce Moore of Gray Court, Terry Moore of Pelzer, Michelle Moore of Pelzer; three grandchildren.

The family received friends October 5, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.  Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Justin Jackson

Justin Reed Jackson of Easley, 26, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Paul Mickle Jackson, Jr. and Kecia Legenia Lynch Jackson, of the home. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include a brother, Paul Mickle “P.J.” Jackson, III, and sister, Tesa Kalene Jackson, both of Pickens.

A graveside service was held October 5 at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tommy Wilkinson

Thomas Dewey “Tommy” Wilkinson of Pelzer, 64, husband of Crystal Carlyle Wilkinson, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Marion Ann Kerns Wilkinson and of the late William Harlan Wilkinson. He was formerly an HVAC technician with Clark Wright Enterprises. 

Additional survivors include his daughters, Rachel Wilkinson of Greenville and Sarah Wilkinson of Pelzer; brother, Billy Wilkinson; sister, Teresa Todd; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was held October 1  at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed ed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Helen Alewine Thompson Gaines

Helen Louise Alewine Thompson Gaines of Pelzer, 61, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late John Berry and Mary Magdalene Brock Alewine.

Survivors include her companion, Donald Ray Thompson of the home; children, Caress Redd of Seattle, Washington, Chase Reamer of Boiling Springs, Moriah Dillard of Piedmont, Patience Floyd of Pelzer, Rebbecca Selm of OH, Selissa Ross of OH; sister, Evelyn Hunter of Belton; brother, David Alewine of NC; sister, Linda Owens; and nine grandchildren.

 The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Catherine Bowen Weaver 

Catherine Bowen Weaver, 72, of Bowen Rd., passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born December 6, 1948, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Arnold and Carrie Lou Busha Bowen. Mrs. Weaver was a graduate of Clemson University and had a weekly article published in the Williamston Journal, “Catherine’s Corner”. She was a school teacher and retired from Palmetto High School and was an active member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

Surviving is her husband, Bill Weaver of the home, daughters: Amy Marie Weaver of Anderson, and Lori Catherine Garrison (Andy) of Anderson; grandsons: Noah and Nate Garrison, and sister, Victoria Bowen McCallum (Jim).

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, October 4, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Couch officiating. The family received friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family is at 6026 Midway Road, Williamston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 1904 Beaverdam Rd., Williamston, SC 29697.

Anita McFalls

Anita Kathleen Orders McFalls of Williamston, 96, wife of the late David Lee McFalls, passed away Thusday, September 28, 2021.

   Born in Rutherfordton, NC, she was a daughter of the late James Fred and Cleo Virginia Wall Orders. She attended Limestone College and was formerly employed with Tolly’s Furniture in Williamston. She served 50 plus years as church organist and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She dedicated much of her time to the church store which presently bears her name, “Anita’s Touch of Grace”. She also spent decades participating in the Senior Follies in Anderson where she sang, danced, and acted.

   She is survived by sons, Eric McFalls of Greenville, Alan McFalls of the home, and Barry McFalls of Powdersville; sister, Jean McFarland of Lenoir, NC; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was held October 2, at Gray Mortuary. A cryptside service followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Bob Stults

Robert Dean “Bob” Stults, II, 78, of Pelzer, husband of Terri Lea Ream Stults, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Born in Rochester, IN, he was the son of the late Robert Dean Stults, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Jenkins Stults. He retired from the U.S. Navy and also from Sara Lee. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Pelzer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Anna Marie Stults, Robert Lee Stults, John Lynn Stults, Melissa Ann Hyder, Robert Dean Stults, III, Christina Diane Stults, and Daniel Sean Stults; sister, Jeane Sheley; fifteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

 Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.

Edna Lollis

Williamston – Mary Edna Gilreath Lollis, 84, wife of Bobby George Lollis, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Hattie Lee Dean Gilreath.  She was a Church of God of Prophecy Sunday School teacher for 32 years.

   In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by son, Bobby George Lollis, Jr. (Betty Jo Greenway) of Williamston; daughter, Sandra Lollis Burgess (William Steve) of Williamston; sister, Thelma Gilreath of Anderson; brother, Johnny Gilreath (Carolyn) of Anderson; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

   She was predeceased by son, Michael Edward Lollis; daughter, Etrulia Ann Lollis; two brothers and two sisters.

   A private graveside service will be held.
