Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride talks with deputies at the scene of an officer involved shooting Tuesday. At approximately 1:50 pm, deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Lee Street in Anderson.  The suspect, Jonathan Zachary Jones was in a stolen vehicle, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended on Highway 8 at Interstate 85 (exit 32). During the conclusion of the stop, Jones exited the stolen Camaro holding a gun, which he refused to drop despite deputies’ orders. He was shot twice and expired.

At the time the area had high traffic volume and the ACSO requested that motorists avoid the area. The Highway 8 overpass was closed for several hours during the crime scene investigation, disrupting local traffic.

As standard procedure, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been asked to respond to investigate.
