Gary Auffhammer

Gary Allen Auffhammer of Anderson, 64, husband of Mary Auffhammer, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021.

Born in Elmira, NY, he was a son of the late Albert Louis and Betty Virginia Dewitt Auffhammer. A U.S. Army veteran, he was employed with Ray Walker Trucking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Michael Auffhammer of Garner, NC and Daniel Auffhammer of Rochester, NY; daughter, Emily Gosnell of Easley; brother, Donald Auffhammer of Brooksville, FL; sisters, Jean Shumway of Horseheads, NY and Anita Fralick (Bill) of Sanford, FL; four grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

Janet Upchurch

Janet Lee Howard Upchurch of Pelzer, 71, wife of Lewis Wilson Upchurch, II, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021.

 Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late William Lee and Doris Virginia Thurston Howard. She retired from Bloom Grocery Store in Anderson.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Upchurch of Liberty; and sister, Brenda Deloris Howard Watson) of Pelzer.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 13, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

Memorials may be made to ASPCA, aspca.org/donate or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn and social distancing observed.

Walter Brown

Walter Gear “Dub” Brown of Williamston, 79, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021.

Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Spurgeon and Gladys Greer Brown. A U.S. Army veteran, he was formerly employed with Delta Woodside.

   He is survived by daughters, Sonia Hall and Misty Thoreson both of Pelzer, and Christy Donnelly of Williamston; sisters, Gwenda Goldsmith, Pearle Dickard, and D.J. Jennings; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Judy Young

Williamston – Julia Anne Fant “Judy” Young, 96, wife of the late Dr. William H. Young, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at her home.

   She was born in Anderson on March 2, 1925, to the late Cecil Addison Fant and Clara Chrystine Wright Fant. A homemaker, she attended Winthrop College, and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Young is survived by her two daughters, Sally Young Thomason (Tommy) of Piedmont and Anne Young Hastings of Greenville; and a sister, Chrystine Marett (Phil) of Anderson. “Nanny”, as her precious grandchildren called her, Julie Thomason Shealy, Catherine Hastings Zilber, James “Jay” Walter Hastings, Jr. and Elizabeth Hastings Gangaram, will miss her but will cherish many fond memories from growing up in and out of her home in Williamston and the mountain house at Laurel Valley. Her nine great-grandchildren, Noa, Ben, Isla, Ari, Beck, Will, Jay, Hank, and Gage, brought immense joy to her, especially in the last year of her life.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Fant Moore and Peggy Fant LaFoy.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to her longtime friend and companion Etta Cureton and her caregivers, Patty Randall and Cindy Borja.

A private graveside service was held at Old Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Bobby Godfrey

Robert Dale “Bobby” Godfrey of Greenville, 53, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021.

 Born in Greenville, he was the son of Sandra Delaine Brown Godfrey Craze and stepfather, David Allen Craze of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Rodger Dale Godfrey. He was employed with Newbold Services and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Gregory Godfrey of Mount Pleasant, NC; stepsisters, Sheila Craze of Virginia Beach, VA and Michele Brown of VA; two grandchildren, and girlfriend, Cheryl Couch.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 13, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with burial in the church cemetery.

Joan Phillips

Anderson – Joan Carolyn Poore Phillips, 81, widow of Wade Stroy Phillips, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late LeLand and Helen Bannister Poore.  She was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Stacey Latham (Jamie) of Anderson; brothers, Wilford Poore (Shelby) and Philip Poore (Peggy) of Honea Path; grandchildren, Windsor Phillips and Noah Phillips (Autumn); one great-grandchild, Lawson Phillips; daughter-in-law, Carol Phillips of Williamston; sister-in-law, Jewel Poore of Honea Path.

She was predeceased by son, Todd Phillips; brother, Mark Poore; and grandson, Zachary Forrester.

The family received friends 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, at West Pelzer Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial was at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Upstate SC Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family is at the home of Noah and Autumn Phillips.

Carla Williams

Carla Lee Goodman Williams of Spartanburg, 54, widow of Norman Eugene Williams, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021.

   Born in Tampa, FL, She was a daughter of the late Johnny Mack Goodman, Sr. and Barbara Ann Johnson Goodman. She was a truck driver by trade.

She is survived by Bruce Messer of the home; and by her sons, Nathan Lee Williams of Anderson and Cory Williams of Piedmont; brother, Owen Goodman of Williamston; sister, Paula Wilkie of Hendersonville, NC; and six grandchildren..

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bob Brennan, Jr.              

Robert “Bob” Edmond Brennan of Williamston, Jr., 63, husband of Sherry Brennan, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

Born in Detroit, MI, he was a son of the late Robert Edmond Brennan, Sr. and Evelyn Somerville Brennan.  He retired from First Quality in Anderson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jeff Brennan of the home; brother, John Brennan (Cheryl) of Pendleton; sister, Lynn Burns (Benny) of Laurens; half-sisters, Lisa Plaster, Brenda Crawford, and Mary Lewis, all of Tennessee.

The family received friends October 8 at Whitefield Baptist Church with the funeral service followingat the church.  Burial wasin the church cemetery.

Debbie Barnhart

Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Walker Barnhart of Piedmont, 60, wife of Michael Allen Barnhart, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Born in Mount Holly, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Millard Abraham and Doris Mae Robinson Walker.  She was a member of the Ware Place Church of God.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Vanessa Marie Delauder of Simpsonville; son, Quinn Adam Barnhart of Belton; sister, Brenda Walker Boatright of Bean Station, TN; brothers, Abe Walker of Bean Station, TN and Daniel Walker of Sevierville, TN; seven granddaughters.

The family received friends October 12, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.

Karen Jones

Karen Marie Williamson Jones of Piedmont, 60, wife of the late Lloyd Samuel Jones, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021.

Born in Mountain Home, ID, she was a daughter of Jerome Bolton and Martha Marie Parks Williamson of Piedmont. She retired from Publix and was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church. 

   Additional survivors include a son, Jacob Jones of Williamston; sister, Renee Michelle Lindsey of Fountain Inn; and brothers, Michael Williamson of Piedmont and Joel Williamson of Fountain Inn.  

Services will be announced.

Charlie Crenshaw

Charlie Crenshaw, Jr. of Fountain Inn, 52, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Charlie Crenshaw, Sr. and Marie Agnes Davis Crenshaw. He was formerly employed with Fastbolt Carolina and a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his aunts, Earlene Anthony of Piedmont and Claudia Keeler of Summerville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Gray Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
