Charles Wright

Charles Ray Wright of Pelzer, 79, husband of Lula Marie Sloan “Lou” Wright, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Born in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Onnie and Josie Marie Dickert Wright. He retired as retail manager from Lowe’s in Anderson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Barry Ray Wright of Liberty, Lisa Stafford of Greenville, Shanna Marie Olvera of Pelzer, Charles Fredrick Wright of Belton, and Vannon Lee Wright of Pelzer; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned by the family at a later date.

Danny Freeman

Danny Lee Freeman of Piedmont, 76, husband of the late Marjorie Diann Taylor Freeman, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late John Benjamin and Agnes Lee Phillips Freeman. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from Harper Corporation.

He is survived by his children, Irisa Lee Freeman-Smith of Anderson, Benjamin E. Freeman of Piedmont, Randall P. Freeman of Greer, and Rachel D. Freeman of Williamston; sister, Pamela Frady; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held October 17, at Gray Mortuary.

Jamey McDaniel

Williamston – James Wayron “Jamey” “Burt” McDaniel, III, 45, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of James Wayron “Mac” McDaniel, Jr. of Lyman and Beth Ann Hurley McDaniel of Piedmont. A Palmetto High School Class of 1993 graduate, he attended Greenville Technical College. Jamey was a driver for UPS and a baseball coach for many years.

In addition to his parents and honorary mother, Renee McDaniel, he is survived by his children, Kiersten Leigh McDaniel and James Braydon McDaniel, both of the home; grandmother, Shirley Moore of Newport, TN; and sisters, Jennifer Thomas (Jeremy) of Spartanburg and Loren Moody (Falls) of Greer.

 Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, at Gray Mortuary.

The service was held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, in the mortuary chapel.

Memorials may be made to Carolina Lightning Organization, C/O Daniel Ellison, 606 Foster Road, Williamston, SC 29697.

The families are at their respective homes.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn and social distancing observed.

Sammy Ford, Sr.

Williamston – Sammy Melvin “Sam” Ford, Sr., husband of Florence “Dolly” Ford, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by his family at his home.  Sammy took his first and last breath on the Ford homestead 77 years apart.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Charlie Thomas and Mildred Crawford Ford.  He retired from Mohawk Industries and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Sammy Melvin Ford, Jr., (Edie) and Timothy “T.I.” Ford; sisters, Sandra Ford Teague and Sarah Ford Davis; brother, James Ford; grandchildren, Samanthia Ford Dies (Justin), Bell Ford Jennings (Ryan), Max Ford, and Ivy Ford; great-grandchild, Stella Dies; and special sisters-in-law, Inez Porter and Connie Hoffman.

He was predeceased by eight brothers and one sister.

Those who paid their respects was Tuesday, October 19, from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, October 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.at Gray Mortuary Pelzer.

   A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, at 3:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Jimmy Cooley

Jimmy Ed Cooley of West Pelzer, 72, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021.

Born in Donalds, he was a son of the late Ed and Ethel McCurry Cooley. He was a residential general contractor.

He is survived by his children, Gregg Knight of Honea Path and Summer McDowell of Powdersville; brother, Tommy Cooley of Honea Path; sister, Judy Orman of Atlanta; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

 A memorial service was held October 16, at West Pelzer Baptist Church.

Donna King

Donna Koon King, 83 of Belton, wife of the late Furman Lloyd King, Sr., passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021.

Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Pearl Mae Mullineaux Koon.  She was the owner/operator of Southside Tax Service in Greenville.

She is survived by son, Buster King of Belton; one grandson, and a special friend, like a son, Darren Seigler of Belton.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Polly Gilliam

Pollyanna “Polly” Gilliam of Spartanburg, 57, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Gilliam, Sr. and Roxie Leah Harris Gilliam.

She is survived by her siblings, Judy Collins of Honea Path, Sissy Hendricks of Piedmont, Lee Gilliam of Pelzer, Connie Smith (Rick) of Central, Fred Gilliam of Orange Beach, AL.

Visitation was held October 19 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Betty Blackstone

Betty Caroline Blackstone of Piedmont, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late James Orville and Ella Mae Pittman Blackstone. She retired from Celanese and was a member of River Road Baptist Church.

She is survived by brother, Donald Wayne Blackstone of the home; and sisters, Nina Satterfield of Easley and Lillian M. McDonald of Highland Township, MI.

Visitation was October 14, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service followed at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Herman Bryson

Fred Herman Bryson of Piedmont, 94, husband of Shirley Bryson, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Born in Young Harris, GA, he was a U.S. Army veteran and was formerly employed with Associated Transport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Lisa Littleton of Simpsonville; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Thursday, October 21, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel with entombment at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
