Anderson County Delinquent Tax Sale – Nov. 1

The Anderson County Delinquent Property Tax Sale will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 at the Civic Center of Anderson, 3027 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Anderson County property owners who have past due or unpaid taxes on their property, have until 5 pm, Friday, October 29 to pay the delinquent taxes on their property. After that it will be sold at public auction to the highest bidder on Nov. 1. Both real estate and mobile homes will be auctioned on this date.
On the day of the tax sale, no delinquent tax payments will be accepted at the sale, at the treasurer’s office or by online payment. (Defaulting taxpayers will have the opportunity to redeem items beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 18).
COVID-19 precautions are encouraged by not required. No PPE items will be provide on site.

Properties throughout the county, including the municipalities, with delinquent 2020 tax payments, are being advertised for the last time before the sale in The Journal, Belton News Chronicle and Anderson Independent on Oct. 27 (Pick up a copy of The Journal at area news stands or subscribe for the online edition to see if your name is on the list) The listings will not be available from the Anderson County Treasurer’s office.
There are links on the County Treasurer’s office website to view the Tax Sale Information Sheet, the Tax Sale Bidder Letter, Bidder Registration and Property Map which allows reserarch of all tax sale parcels and mobile homes. An interactive spreadsheet of the 2021 newspaper ad is also available online.
Civic Center doors will open at 8 a.m. on Nov. 1. Registration for bidders also begins at 8 a.m.
Bidding starts at 9 a.m.
Masks, gloves, sanitizer and all other personal protective equipment are the responsibility of the bidder.
Writing instruments such as pens, pencils, highlighters and markers are also the responsibility of the bidder.
An on-site concession stand will be open during the tax sale.

In an effort to expedite the bidder registration process, the Anderson County Treasurer’s Office is encouraging participants to pre-register online. Bidders can go to the County website at www.andersoncountysc.org and select the link “Bidder Registration”.
All sales are final and no refunds will be issued. All property is sold “as is, where is.”
Each opening bid consists of all delinquent tax, penalties and fees due to Anderson County and/or municipalities for tax year 2020, plus the current 2021 tax amount and the expense of the tax sale. Purchaser will be required to pay $15 for deed plus documentary stamps and recording fees, if not redeemed. Terms are: cash at time of sale.
Once tax sale purchases are complete, an invoice will be issued and bidders must go to a local bank, secure cash or cashier’s check and return to the auction to settle any balance. All purchases must be paid in full on the day of the tax sale. No personal checks, credit cards or debit cards will be accepted for payments.
Successful bidders cannot take possession of the property until a one year redemption period has expired and a tax deed is issued from Anderson County, or a bill of sale/right of possession document in the case of a mobile home.
The purchase of a parcel of land that contains a separately taxed mobile home does not include the mobile home.
In the case of an owner having multiple delinquent properties, only sufficient property will be sold to satisfy the total amount due.
Items offered but not purchased will be available from the Anderson County Treasurer’s Office.
