Both Pelzer and West Pelzer had municipal elections on November 2. West Pelzer had only one candidate for each of the two council seats available. That circumstance was reflected in the paltry turnout. Only forty voters participated, with incumbent Johnny Rogers receiving nineteen votes, while newcomer Jeff Lee received twenty one.
The Pelzer race was quite a bit more interesting, with four candidates vying for two council seats, while Mayor Will Ragland was opposed only by a write in effort, which he defeated seventy votes to fifty nine.
Incumbent Mike Matthews and frequent Ragland critic Donna Ide received the two highest number of votes, with 70 and 78 votes respectively. Incumbent Skip Goldsmith was defeated, as was newcomer Matt Turner, both of whom Ragland openly supported. A little more than ten per cent of the town’s registered voters turned out.
