Dale Harper

Williamston – Robert Dale Harper, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late H.H. and Juanita Godfrey Harper. At age 15 as a ninth-grade pupil at the Pelzer-Williamston High School, he won the essay contest naming the new Palmetto High School from which he graduated in 1956 as Salutatorian. He earned his BA from Erskine College, his master’s from Furman University, and his EDS from the University of Georgia. He retired from Anderson School District One following 33 years of teaching.

A member of Big Creek Baptist Church, he was a lay minister who filled many local pulpits.

 He is survived by sister, Cathy Gillespie of Williamston; and was predeceased by twin sister, Gail Selman Simpson and brother, Billy Wayne Harper.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn and social distancing observed.

Ruth Landers

Thelma Ruth King Landers of Williamston, 91, widow of Johnny Raymond Landers, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at her home.

   Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Marie Harvey King. She was a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church, Fork Shoals.

Survivors include daughter, Wendy Landers Campbell (Melvin Delmas Campbell) of Pelzer; one grandson, and a great-grandson.

   Private services will be held.

Anne Causey

Anne Carter Dunn Causey of Williamston, 67, wife of Franklin Craig Causey, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

Born in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. Dunn, Jr. and Barbara Jackson Dunn. She retired from The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company and was a member of West End Baptist Church in Gaffney.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Frank Causey and Dale Causey of Williamston; step-mother, Arlene Dunn of Martinsville, VA; brother, Robert Dunn, III of Hurt, VA; step-sisters, Jackie Van Dyke of Martinsville, VA and Kathy McLachlan of Williamsburg, VA; two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be December 4, at West End Baptist Church with food and fellowship following in the church social hall.

Judy Roach

Clara June “Judy” Edens Roach of Honea Path, 79, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Herman and Edna Lucille Smith Edens. She retired from Cryovac.

   She is survived by niece, Martha Edwards of Williamston, sisters, Barbara Shipman, Patricia Chandler, Thelma Timms, and Ruby Cabaniss, all of Williamston; brother, Bill Edens of Williamston.

The family received friends November 12 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service followed in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Joseph M. Jordan, Sr.,

Joseph M. Jordan, Sr., 87, husband of the late Louise McGill Jordan, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Guy Jordan, Sr. and Rosalie Bell Jordan. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was a retired supervisor with Duke Power Company. He was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter Beth Jordan Lewis, son Joey Jordan, Jr. and wife, Sandy, and daughter Christy Jordan Allen;  five grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a brother Hal Jordan.

Burial will be at a later date at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

James “Tommy” Thomas King 

Belton -James “Tommy” Thomas King, 66, resident of Breazeale St., died Thursday November 4, 2021 at his residence.

Born on November 18, 1954 in Anderson County to the late James Russell and Faye Herrin King. He served in the United States Air Force and later worked as a Carpenter and served as a Police Officer.

He was a member of the American Legion. He loved riding his Harley. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are his children, Angela “Angie” Powell (Barry) of Belton, Jason King (Whitney) of Charleston, and Brandon King (Brittani) of Belton; his grandchildren, Nathan Powell, Connor Powell, and Evelyn King; his sister, Janis Davis; his brother, Donnie King. He was predeceased by a son, Branden Bratcher.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11AM from the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Black officiating. Burial will be at a later date at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Brandon King and will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 PM at Cox Funeral Home.

Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to the Patriot Guard.

Matt Griffith

Matthew Lee “Matt” Griffith of Liberty, 43, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of William Randall Griffith and the late Maria Antonette Looper Griffith.  He was employed with the City of Anderson. 

In addition to his father, he is survived by his fiancé’, Savannah Smith of the home; daughters, Briana Nicole Griffith of Pendleton and Alecia Marie Griffith of the home; sons, Austin Lee Griffith of Charleston and William Hayden Wheeler of Pendleton; brothers, Jason Griffith of Liberty. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth “Ken” Cothran

James Kenneth “Ken” Cothran, Sr., 88, of Belton, husband of Joan Crawford Cothran passed away Friday, November 12, 2021.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Thomas Arabian Cothran, Sr. and Mary Blanche Hendrix Cothran. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean war and retired from Southern Bell. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

 In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by children, James Kenneth Cothran, Jr. of Clemson, John Mark Cothran of Belton, Sherri Cothran Bishop of Pickens, and Robert Daniel Cothran of Spartanburg; and had nine grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings, Jane Cothran Kelly of Pelzer, Linda Cothran Coker of Pelzer, Bill Cothran of Belton, Ricky Cothran of Pelzer, Glen Cothran of Belton, and Joyce Cothran Coker of Pelzer.

 Visitation was held November 16, at Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer. The funeral service followed. Burial was at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church cemetery.

Willie Woodson

Williamston – Willie Sue Shiflet Woodson, 89, wife of the late John Wesley Woodson, left her earthly home for her eternal home, Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Born in Townville, she was a daughter of the lateThomas Ausie and Bertha Matilda Whitfield Shiflet.  She retired from J.C. Penney, a former Girl Scout leader and was a member of High Praises Church.

She is survived by her children, Wanda Norris (Perry) of Starr, Lawrence Woodson (Jo) of Belton, Donna Wilson (Gary) of Anderson, Ray Woodson of Williamston, and Bertha Swinney (Noel) of Greenville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Helen Shiflet Buffington and Betty Guy Shiflet.

Visitation was Tuesday, November 16, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. at High Praises Church, 4506 Midway Road, Williamston, with the service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Curtis W. Fowler 

Curtis W. Fowler, 88, husband of Faye Fowler, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021.

Born in Pelzer SC, he was the son of the late Edward and Vera Cooley Fowler. Curtis was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and American Legion Post 11.

In addition to his loving wife, Faye, he is survived by his daughter, Pamela Fowler; brothers, Ronald Fowler (Sandra) and Steve Fowler; sisters, Macy Lusk (Gerald) and Vivian Garrett (Kenneth); and a special family, Mohammed and Saeda Sarhan, and their children, Mutaz, Muayad, and Sadeen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Douglas Fowler; sister-in-law, Becky Fowler; and sister, Brenda Elaine Fowler.

A visitation was held Friday, October 22, 2021 at Rock Springs Baptist Church Chapel, with the funeral service following. The family appreciates those attending to follow the CDC guidelines on Social Distancing and Wearing a Mask. Burial was held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Tim Reid 

Tim Reid, 53, husband of Stephanie Reid of Belton went to be with Jesus on November 7, 2021. He was retired from the City of Greenville.

He worked part-time at Stewart’s Lake in Pelzer. His parents are Tony and Roberta Reid of Piedmont. He was Papa and Father figure to Joshua and Peyton Broughton and Vicki Davidson of the home and Kayleena Davis of Belton. His two brothers are Mark Reid and Robby Reid of Piedmont. Tim was one of the good guys. He was loved by all that knew him. 

A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 14 at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church.

Bessie Reeves

Bessie Lee Fletcher Reeves, 97, of Piedmont,wife of the late Robert Erskine Reeves, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Richard “Cab” and Lillie Howard Fletcher. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a charter member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Piedmont.

She is survived by a daughter, Shelia Wyatt of Easley; granddaughter, Amanda McCauley of Williamston; and two great-grandsons.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 17, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. A private committal service will be held Friday.

Charles Dwight (Pete) Bramlett

Williamston – Charles Dwight (Pete) Bramlett, 83, beloved husband, daddy, and grandaddy died November 12, 2021, at Roger C. Peace Hospital.

   Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Alfred Leon Bramlett, Sr. and Blanche Fuller Bramlett. He was a graduate of Parker High School and Clemson University. He worked as assistant plant engineer and plant engineer for Milliken and Company for 43 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Williamston and a U.S. Army veteran.

   Pete was best known for his love of God and his love of family. Also, Pete had a P.H.D. – post hole digger! Many, many holes were dug, and plants, flowers and shrubs were planted. He enjoyed his yard and worked in it many hours at a time as his neighbors will attest.

  Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Beverly Ayers Bramlett; son, Brad Bramlett (Wendy); daughter, Betsy Schaffer (David), grandsons, Hunter and Parker Bramlett, Kyle and Tyler Schaffer, and granddaughter, Savannah Bramlett; sister, Jean Boothby (Chuck); brother, Larry Bramlett (Sarah) and sister-in-law, Jeanie Ayers Elrod.

   He was predeceased by his older brother, Alfred Leon Bramlett, Jr. (Hazel). Many of these family members enjoyed great times together at Crescent Beach.

   Pete’s memorial service will be held at Gray Mortuary, West Pelzer, on Sunday, November 28 at 2 p.m. with visitation following the service.
