Mary Etta Hill Beckman

Mary Etta Hill Beckman, of Anderson, 79, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021. 

She was born December 22, 1941, in Booneville, AR, to Vernon Huston and Era Fern McCullah Hill.

She was an active member at First Baptist Church of Lake Park Florida and New Prospect Baptist Church in Anderson. She taught school for over two decades in both Florida and South Carolina.

She is survived by her children, Mary Zohar of Lutz, FL, Robert Beckman, II of Lakeland, FL, Susan Wise of Piedmont, and Daniel Beckman of Culpeper, VA; and eight grandchildren.

The family will celebrate ed her life December 5, at New Prospect Baptist Church with a reception to follow.

Donna Johnson

Donna Elizabeth Johnson, of Anderson, 58, wife of William “Bill” Johnson, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at her home.

   Born in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late Marshall Burrell and Geraldine Elizabeth Bryant Burrell Alexander.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Debbie Owens of Williamston; son, Josh Sullivan of Ware Shoals; six grandchildren, siblings, Wilma Harris, Frances Deaton, Frankie Burrell, Teresa Crunkelton, James Burrell, Martha Wilson, Clara Pilgram, James Alexander, Keith Alexander, Verner Alexander, Tim Alexander, Lynn Porter, Darcy Crowe, and Tracy Hastings.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

Grayson Miller

Grayson Leon Miller, of Williamston passed away on December 3, 2021, at the age of 77 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

He was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on July 12, 1944, to the late Ira Grayson Miller and Willie “Bill” Miller. 

He is survived by his wife, Jane Jolly Miller, three daughters, Teresa Jane Miller Barnhardt of Belton, Angela Michelle Miller Aleshire of Williamston, and Debra Sue Miller Shockley of Clemson, and five grandchildren, also, one sister, Alice Hopkins of Cottondale, Al.
He served in the US Army. He was a small engine repair mechanic and lawnmower shop owner for over 40 years in Williamston.

Visitation was held at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, December 6, with the service following in the mortuary chapel. A private burial service will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Jerry T. Singleton 

Jerry T. Singleton 79, passed away at home December 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. 

Born in Anderson, he was the son of late Johnson Talmadge and Bernice Singleton. He was a graduate of Palmetto High School. He retired from Anderson County and the South Carolina Army National Guard. He was a member of Eureka Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He enjoyed assisting with coaching the T.L. Hanna Girls Softball Team. He also enjoyed coaching his children and watching his grandchildren play sports.   

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Jordan Singleton, son Derrick Singleton (Dava) and daughter Denise Singleton Brown (Jimmy) of Anderson; four grandchildren, Heather Singleton Busby (Tyler), Danielle Brown Long (Brady), Blake Singleton, and Magen Brown; one great-grandchild Josephine Long of Anderson; and sister, Betty Singleton Guest of Belton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Lee, brother Ray Singleton, great-granddaughter Adeline Grace Brown Long, and mother-in-law Lillie Mae Jordan. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, at Eureka Baptist Church. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan- King Mortuary. The family is at the residence.

Tim Fitzgerald

Timothy Gene “Tim” Fitzgerald, of Pelzer, 58, husband of Amy Christine McKelvey Fitzgerald, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021.

Born in Cisco, TX, he was a son of the late James Patterson and Frances Lujean Coats Fitzgerald. He worked in manufactured home sales and was a member of Upstate Church of Christ in Anderson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Maddison Elmore of Pelzer; son, Jacob Fitzgerald of Pelzer; brothers, Tony Fitzgerald of Beaumont, TX, Kevin Price of Honey Island, TX, and James Fitzgerald of Roanoke, VA; and one grandson on the way, Mason Fitz Elmore.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, December 7, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Tony Gilreath

William Anthony “Tony” Gilreath, of Pelzer 61, husband of Clara Mae Hudson Gilreath, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Fredie Lee and Ruby Kate Roper Gilreath. He was employed with Yeargin Miscellaneous Metals and was a member of Happy Trails Cowboy Church in Ware Place.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Will Gilreath of Liberty, Krista Gilreath of Williamston, and Jonathon Gilreath of Pelzer; grandson, Eric Gilreath of the home; and sister, Lillie Katheryn “Kathy” Gilreath Hogg of Williamston.

 A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, December 9, at 6:00 p.m. at Happy Trails Cowboy Church.

Keith “Doc” Jennings

John Keith “Doc” Jennings, of Taylors, 71, passed away on December 1, 2021, at home.

He was born May 19, 1950, in Greenville, SC. He had a 30-year career in the fire service, and was a member of The Chordsmen Quartet, a southern gospel music group. 

He is survived by his wife, Edie King Jennings; his daughter Abby Voorhees of Greer; son Todd Jennings of Taylors; three grandchildren, a sister Kathy Adams of Pelzer.

Visitation was December 4 with the memorial service following at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Williamston.

Betty Gossett

Belton – Betty Guthrie Ledford Gossett, 89, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at The Maples Assisted Living in Honea Path.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Allen “B.A.” “Benny” Guthrie and Dessie Harvey Smith Guthrie.

Survivors include a daughter, Rena Ledford Lowe (Charlie) of Belton; son, Donnie Gossett (Pat) of Easley; daughter-in-law, Sandra Ledford of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Bernard Ledford; twin sister, Bonnie Burgess; and brothers, Wilton and Marshall Guthrie.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 9, at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with visitation to follow.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Maples for all their love and care.
