Billy Carlton Kay 

Billy Carlton Kay, 67, of Williamston, passed from this world to his eternal heavenly home on December 9th 2021. He was born September 7, 1954 in Greenville, SC to Jesse and Mary Ruth Kay who preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue (Boling) Kay. 

He is also survived by brothers and sisters: David (Sara), Harold (Pat), Randy (Diane), Ben, and Carol Coker.  He has numerous nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

Bill never met a stranger and  made people laugh wherever he went.  His love of helping people was evident whether working with the Shriners, volunteering at his church, or helping someone in the community.

Bill served as a vehicle mechanic in the Army and owned/operated Kaco Roofing since 1976.

He was a long-time and respected member of Oak Pointe Church 8649 Augusta Road, Pelzer where a memorial service was held Sunday, December 12.  Friends were received with the service following.

A military burial will be held at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Pottz

Mary D. Pottz, 98, of Simpsonville,widow of the late Glenn Edward Pottz, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021.

   Born in New York City, NY, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Beatrice DeStefano.  She retired as secretary of Piper’s Roofing Company, and was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church.

    She is survived by her children, Stephanie King of Greenville, Sandra Rice of Fripp Island, Warren Pottz of Simpsonville, and Sharon Eskew of Williamston; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, at noon, in the mortuary chapel, with burial to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Piedmont United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Piedmont, SC 29673.

Kevin Heyn

Kevin Jan Heyn, 30, of Piedmont, son of Sandra Rogers DeYoung and Mark DeYoung of Piedmont, and Tenuis Heyn (Jill) of Houston, TX,passed away December 11, 2021. 

He is survived by his parents, his brother, Sean Heyn, of Piedmont, sister, Hope Roper and brothers, Andy DeYoung of Belton and Julien Heyn of Houston, TX.  He is also survived by grandparents, Jerry and Carolyn Rogers of Piedmont, and paternal grandfather, Hans Heyn of Rochester, NY.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Joy Fellowship at 492 Bessie Road, Piedmont, SC 29673, on Saturday, December 18, at 1 p.m.

Pamela Whitt

Pamela Elaine Harkins Whitt of Belton, 59, wife of Carroll Milton Whitt, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021.

   Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Doug Otis Scott of West Pelzer, and of the late Martha Albany Calloway Hawkins. She was a homemaker and a member of High Praises Church in Anderson.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Teresa “Terri” Knight, and niece, Lydia Knight of Pelzer.

Visitation was held December 13 at Gray Mortuary. The service followed in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Andrea Kellett

Williamston – Andrea Nicole Kellett, 47, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Ginny Elaine Phillips Kellett, and of the late Ronald Charles Kellett. Employed by AnMed, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Ashlyn Lindsey (Austin) of the home; son, Nicolas Lehmann of Central; special daughter, Lauren Cabaniss of Williamston; sister, Beth Stroud (Jeffrey) of Williamston; and grandchildren, Bryleigh Lollis, and Paisleigh Lindsey.

Visitation was Monday, December 13, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service followed at 6:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

Due to Covid-19, was suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 460, Williamston, SC 29697.

The family will be at the home of her sister.

Kathy Lusk

Kathy Eleanor Smith Lusk of Pelzer, 69, wife of James Ray Lusk, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Riley Elbert and Eleanor Owens Smith. She retired from Cushman Plant in Williamston.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Tim Lusk of Pelzer; brothers, Bobby Smith of Austin, TX and Steven Smith of Pelzer; sister, Janie Smith of West Pelzer; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Betty Jo Jordan

Betty Jo James Jordan of Williamston, 81, wife of the late Wydman Veld Jordan, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Edward and Julia Ford James. She retired form Mount Vernon Mills and attended East Clemson Christian Fellowship. 

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Jordan Marcus of the home; son, Robert Jordan of Anderson; brothers, Rev. Ralph James of Pelzer and Don James of Honea Path; sister, Maryland McAlister of Williamston; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren,

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 19, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. A private burial will be held.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

The family will be at the home of granddaughter, Shaunda Trotter, on Friday, December 17, 110 Hawnes Place, Anderson.

John Mayes

John Nixon Mayes, Jr., of Piedmont, 76, husband of Mable Mayes, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late John Nixon Mayes, Sr. and Lucile Ruby Moody Mayes.  He was owner/operator of Straight Line Express in Piedmont and drove for Red Classic for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company.   John was also a U.S. Army veteran. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Wayne Mayes of Homerville, GA and James Mayes of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Renee Rampey of Powdersville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
