During a special called meeting held last Thursday, Williamston Town Council approved property rezoning and sale and held public hearing.

No one spoke during the public comments portion of a hearing on rezoning property on First Street or regarding a South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) Grant.

Following the public hearing, Council approved second reading on an ordinance to rezone property on East First Street. The East First Street property, Lots 41 & 42, includes approximately .56 acres that were zoned R-3 Single Family and Duplex Residential. The property was rezoned to R-7 to allow for the construction of 3 new homes by Premier Homes. Councilman Lee Cole abstained due to an interest in the property.

Council also approved second reading on an ordinance to sell a piece of land in Gatewood Subdivision and second reading on an ordinance to sell a strip of land to Ingles.

The town owned property at 107 Gatewood Subdivision includes lots 23 and 24 which are being sold for $15,000.

The piece of town property located next to the police department is being sold to Ingles. The property will be used for a required 1500 gallon “grease trap” for the Raines on Main restaurant. The six foot strip of property, total 456 sq. ft., is being sold for $3,342. Mayor Rockey Burgess said the price is the same paid for the ACE Hardware property which comes out to $7.33 per sq. ft.
