Mr. James M. Starnes, Joe Cothran, Jon Adler Lippert, Janice Davis, Betty Moon, Edith Baggot, Ruth Poole, Ann W. Campbell

Ann W. Campbell

Roberta Ann Wilson Campbell of Pelzer, 78, wife of Samuel E. “Sam” Campbell, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s, Saturday, July 9, 2022.

She was a child of the late John Harry and Ethel Jones Wilson.  She taught Elementary and Middle school for 30 years. She was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, John Campbell of Powdersville and Robert Campbell of Taylors; sister, Nancy Stacy; brother, Tommy Wilson; and grandson.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 16, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Poole

Ruth Elizabeth Copeland Poole of Piedmont, 97, wife of the late Robert Carl Poole, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Ira Ferdinand and Minnie Rebecca Holland Copeland. She was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include daughter, Becky Stephens of Greenville and grandson.

A graveside service was held July 12, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Edith Baggot

Mary Edith Alewine Baggot of Williamston, 78, wife of the late Andrew Judson “A.J.” Baggot, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Dora Kelly Alewine.  She was formerly employed with The Kendall Company.

She is survived by daughter, Diane Burdette of the home; and son, Lonnie Garner of Williamston; sister, Betty Hoffman of Pelzer; three grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

 A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Betty Moon 

Betty Bannister Moon, 77, wife of David Moon, of Belton, S.C., died Friday, July 1, 2022, at her home. 

Born in Belton, on May 9, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Herman Lee Bannister, and the late Doris Cox Bannister. 

Betty was a graduate of both Anderson College and Clemson University, where she earned a degree in education. She was employed for 25 years by Anderson School District 1, as a fourth-grade teacher at Palmetto Primary School in Williamston, S.C. She was a member of Belton First Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she was a member of the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class. 

She is survived by her husband, David Moon, son, Brian Moon (Tammy), grandchildren; Jennifer Schantz (Brandon), Chase Moon (Ashlynn), and Heather Takach, and her great-grandchildren, Corbin and Wade Schantz, and Evelynn Moon. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Joey Moon, and her brother, Larry Lee Bannister. 

A funeral service was held at 12:00pm, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Diary Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Burial followed at The Garden of Memories in Belton. 

The family received friends at The Standard, prior to the service, from 11:00am – 12:00pm.

Janice Davis

Janice King Davis of Williamston, 70, widow of Steven Luther Davis, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022.

   Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James Russell and Velma “Fay” Herrin King.  She was a medical records supervisor at Prisma Health.

 Survivors include sons, Alan Davis of Seneca and Josh Davis of Marietta; brother, Donnie King; and three grandchildren.

The family received friends July 5 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.  Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Jon Adler Lippert

Jon Adler Lippert, 67, beloved husband of Revonda Pack Lippert, of Pelzer passed away on June 16, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital. 

Celebration of Jon’s life will be held July 23, 2022 at 2pm at the Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith, Pelzer, SC. Pastor Wally Winner and Pastor Alan Cain

Jon was born in Dixion, Illinois and was raised in Illinois.

He was the son of the late Dudley and Joanne Lippert.

He was preceded in death by his brother Mark Lippert.

 Jon was the owner of Flowers by Jon, and worked for Anderson County School District 1 as a Custodian, Spearman Elementary and Palmetto Elementary. He worked in the 90s at the Career & Technology Center, Wiliamston and also worked as a courier for Cancer Center, Greenville, SC.

In addition to his loving wife, Jon is survived by his daughter, Kim Spearman (Randy) ; his sister, Telva Lippert Elwell and his grandson, Will Spearman all of Pelzer.

Joe Cothran

Joe Earl “Smokin Joe” Cothran of Belton, 78, husband of Brenda Joyce Kelley Cothran, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Haskell Andrew and Pauline Isabel Gambrell Cothran. He retired from Sitton Pontiac-GMC Greenville.  He attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Lisa Rollins of Belton, Sherry Fuller of Ninety-Six, and Kadence, Adara, and Kylie Cothran, all of the home; and three grandchildren.

A private service was held.

Mr. James M. Starnes

Mr. James M. Starnes, 94, of Hartwell, formerly of Pelzer, SC, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his home. 

Born on February 5, 1928 in Clinton, SC, he was the son of the late Minter Bobo Starnes and Effie Brady Starnes. Mr. Starnes worked at AnMed Health Medical Center from 1977-1993 where he was a maintenance worker in the Engineering Department. He was a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church and a former member & deacon of Milltown Baptist Church. He was an avid lover of sports, especially baseball and softball. James played baseball with the Pelzer Bears, and played Men’s Softball. He coached both Girls and Men’s Softball, as well as Men’s Basketball. He also umpired softball, high school baseball, and Clemson University baseball, and he was even offered to umpire professionally but declined to raise his family. James was also a US Army Air Corps veteran where he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. 

Survivors include his wife: Bonnie Scarboro Starnes of Hartwell; two sons: Mike Starnes (Robin) of Piedmont, SC, and Tommy Starnes (Terry) of Belton, SC; four daughters: Diane Durham (Louie) of Laurens, SC, and Lynn Bishop (George) of Anderson, SC, Tammy Strickland (Arnold) of Hartwell and Gina Grant (Tommy) of Williamston, SC; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-nine great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Starnes waspreceded in death by his parents; first wife: Audrey Louise Cobb Starnes; one son: Doug Starnes; five brothers: Willie Lee, Lawrence, Leonard, Tolly, and Randolph Starnes; and one sister: Virginia “Jink” Carson. 

The family received friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes. 

Funeral services for Mr. James Starnes were held Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Ken Brewer officiating. Graveside services were at the Greenville Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022.
