G. Lee Cole, Jr. has announced his intention to run for re-election to the Ward Two seat he currently occupies on the Williamston Town Council. Cole was elected to fill the unexpired term vacated by current Mayor Rockey Burgess in March 2021. He is now seeking a full term on Town Council in the general election that will be held on November 8, 2022.

“It has been an honor to serve my community on Town Council for the past fourteen months. I have worked with the Mayor and my fellow Councilmembers to foster economic and residential development, provide quality services to the citizens of Williamston, and beautify our Town, especially the Mineral Spring Park. I am now asking voters to give me the opportunity to serve a full term to continue working to move our town forward,” Cole said when asked why he was seeking re-election.

He also pointed to his accomplishments during his short time in office. “It is an exciting time to be in Williamston. Developers are ready to break ground on our first new subdivision in many years, and we have two others that will not be far behind. Ingles has confirmed that they hope to have our new grocery store completed within two years, and this will have huge impact on our local economy. We are completing the first stage of a full restoration of the Mineral Spring Park with the new pickleball and basketball courts as well as a comprehensive maintenance and beautification program. Our Mineral Spring Trail will soon be nearly doubled in length, and the trail and our growing sidewalk system will eventually connect all neighborhoods to our historic downtown. We are in the early stages of comprehensive streetscape efforts to beautify the Greenville Drive corridor and other major roadways in town. We are also continuing to make major improvements to our aging infrastructure. I am especially proud that we have been able to accomplish all of this without raising taxes or water bills.”

Cole is Senior Partner at Cox & Cole, Attorneys at Law, a general practice law firm in Williamston, and he previously as Town Attorney from 2014 until 2021. He is a graduate of Palmetto High School, the University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina School of Law, and the Clamp Divinity School at Anderson University. He formerly served as a Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church and Pelzer United Methodist Church. He has also had leadership roles in many community organizations including Envision Williamston, Mill Town Players Board of Directors, First Citizens Bank Advisory Board, Palmetto Business Association, and Tri-County Technical College Board of Visitors.
