Delottie White Smallwood, Don Parker, Sr., Louise Ellenburg, Marlene Greer, Sara Dickerson, CPO Jerry Gilmer, USN, Ret.

CPO Jerry Gilmer, USN, Ret.

CPO Jerry Franklin Gilmer of Piedmont, USN, Ret., 86, husband of Peggy Irene Austin Gilmer, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Amos Coleman and Angileen Culbertson Gilmer.  Chief Petty Officer Gilmer was a Vietnam War veteran and he retired from the U.S. Navy.  Additionally, he retired from Michelin Tire Corporation and was a member of St. John of the Ladder Orthodox Church.  

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jerry Douglas Gilmer of Greenwood, daughter, Beverly Darlene Ashley of Iva, and step-son, Lee Weber Austin of Gainesville, GA; brother, Kenneth Wayne Gilmer, of Greenville; and sisters, Annette Burkett and Marian Branyon, of Honea Path; and four grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at October 18 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, with a graveside service following at Greenville Memorial Gardens. 

   In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to St. John of the Ladder Orthodox Church Building Fund, 213 Roper Mountain Road Extension, Greenville, SC  29615.

Sara Dickerson

June 28, 1943 – October 12, 2022

 Sara Dickerson, 79, wife of David Dickerson, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at St. Francis Downtown in Greenville, SC.

 Born on June 28, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Furman & Eileen Moody.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Ross, two brothers, Bobby & Leon Moody and a sister, Virginia.

 Along with her husband, she is survived by her three nephews.

 She was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

 A funeral service was held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at White Plains Baptist Church, 1435 Easley Highway, Pelzer, SC 29669. Rev. Ronald Chavis officiated. Burial followed at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

 Visitation was held prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00am.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pelzer Church of God, 203 Highway 20N, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Marlene Greer

Pelzer – Louise Marlene Hester Greer, 75, wife of the late Benny Lee Greer, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022.

   Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Henry Elgar and Margaret “Minnie” Alexander Smith.  A former employee of Swirl Manufacturing Company, she was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Steven Michael “Mike” Mardis of Pelzer, David Shane Mardis (Kandie) of Williamston, and Thomas Wesley Rogers (Jessica) of Piedmont; daughter in love, Cheryl Mardis; grandchildren, Justin Dean Mardis, Jordan Mardis, Chandler Lee Mardis, Andrew Mardis, Jessee Mardis, Bailey Rogers, Ashton Rogers, and Carter Leigh Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Lukas, Korbyn, Konner, Dawson, Joanna, Abigail, Jerryn, Bexlee, Waylyn, Bryer, and Kolter.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Louise Ellenburg

Zoa Louise Hayes Ellenburg of Pelzer, 95, wife of the late Rev. James E. “Shadow” Ellenburg, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Born in Pickens County on June 29, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Richard J. Hobson and Zoa Beatrice Trotter Hayes. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church. 

She is survived by sons, James Richard “Dick” Ellenburg of Seneca and Thomas Eugene Ellenburg of Easley;seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 am Monday, October 24 at Washington Baptist Church. The service will follow at 10:00 am in the church. A private burial will be held.

Don Parker, Sr.

Piedmont – Donald Clarence “Don” Parker, Sr., 86, husband of the late Bobbie Faye Eller Parker, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Roy Clarence and Lula Mae Welborn Parker. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from Platt Saco-Lowell and additionally worked as a custodian at Palmetto Elementary School. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church where he loved and supported his special brothers and sisters in Christ.

Survivors include daughters, Annette Oliver (Tony) of Piedmont and Sandra Adcox (Dean) of Williamston; grandchildren, Brittany Couch (Brandon), Shayla Evans (Billy), Tyler Creamer (Heather), Hannah Cely (Zack), Allison Powell (Tyler); and great-grandchildren, Brice Couch, Ruby and Lane Creamer.

He was predeceased by daughter, Donna Wood and son, Donald Clarence Parker, Jr.; sisters, Norma Jean Parker and Barbara Stanton; brother, Clifford Parker; and great-granddaughter, Abby Grace Couch.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Delottie White Smallwood 

Delottie White Smallwood, age 74, of 909 Highway 8 East, South Carolina, Delottie passed away at home on October 11, 2022, after a well lived life. 

She was the daughter of the late Broadus Clyde and Ruth Traynham White. Delottie was predeceased by her spouse Roger Dale Smallwood; son: Chris Smallwood; and brother: Tom White. She is survived by her daughter: Kelly (Kevin) Wilson of Pelzer; sons: Dereck (Lynn) Sane of West Pelzer, and Chad (Becky) Smallwood of Gray Court; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister: Ruth Ellen Thurston of Pelzer, and sister-in-law: Judy White of Greenville. 

Delottie was born in Pelzer, South Carolina, where she lived a full and warm life, filled with joy. She was retired from Michelin and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church, Pelzer. Delottie will be forever loved and remembered.
