Envision Williamston’s Executive Director Roberta Hamby recently made contact with Quilts of Valor about presenting her brother, James Barrs, a retired vet, a Quilt of Valor for his 21 years of military service.
SC State Coordinator, Kim Price, reached out to Mrs. Hamby and proposed an idea.
Quilts of Valor had been thinking about choosing a town on a Veterans holiday and making a presentation to 10-12 Soldiers with a Quilt of Valor. She suggested that possibly Williamston could be the first town for them to make such a presentation on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11.
Hamby loved the idea and talked with Mayor Rockey Burgess who was also 100% on board. Envision Williamston Board Member, Wendy Burgess, immediately jumped into action and began helping to plan the event, too. Colonel Mike Creamer, with Palmetto High School ROTC is also involved with the project.
Ten to twelve soldiers will be chosen from all who apply to receive a Quilt of Valor on upcoming Veterans Day in Williamston.
If you know a military veteran that you would like to nominate, you can go online and fill out the application online at https://www.qovf.org/ or pick up an application at Town Hall and either return to Kim Price with Quilts of Valor directly at kmyherep@gmail.com, or contact Roberta (864) 360-1388 and she will help you get it sent in. Deadline for applications is Monday, October 31, 2022.
“We Can Never Thank Our Military Enough For The Sacrifices That They Make To Keep Us Safe and Free,” Price said.
