Russell Smith

Russell Reid Smith of Pelzer, 52, husband of Sharon Diane Vinson Smith, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Randolph Smith, Jr. and Judy Ruth Reid Smith.  He was formerly employed with General Air Conditioning Service Corporation.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughter, Hailey Elizabeth Smith of the home; son, Liam Reid Smith of the home; brother, James R. “Jimmy” Smith of Pelze.

The funeral service will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer with visitation following until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Batson Cancer Center, 104 Innovation Drive, Greenville, SC 29607.

Roy Nelson

Roy David Nelson of Piedmont, 72, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Andy Virgil and Nellie Mae Hollingsworth Nelson.  He retired from Greenville Metalcraft and attended Rehoboth Baptist Church and Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Survivors include sisters, Shirley Philyaw of Williamston, Linda Slaton of Piedmont, Carolyn Brooks of Williamston; and brother, Lloyd Nelson of Pelzer.

A memorial service was held October 30 at Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Ernie Ray Allen

Ernest Ray “Ernie Ray” Allen, Jr., 70, of Fountain Inn, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Ernest Ray Allen, Sr. and Maude Catherine Batson Allen.

He is survived by brothers, Raymond Clyde Allen of Greenville and John Lewis Allen of Middleburg, FL; and sister, Barbara Allen of Greer.

   A private service will be held at a later date.

Dana Stevens

Dana Sue Cress Stevens of Piedmont, 58, wife of Michael Wayne Stevens, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Born in Wise, VA, she was the daughter of the late Donald Habern Cress, and the late Margaret Ann Jessee Boggs. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Timothy Stevens, Chase Stevens, and Jessee Granger; brothers, Stan Cress and Steve Cress; six grandchildren  and step-father, Barry Boggs.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 2, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

Vennie Davis

Vennie Mary Lou Fricks Davis of Williamston, 86, wife of the late Bobby Howard Davis, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Azalee Mulligan Fricks. She retired from Ruth’s Fashions in Piedmont.

She is survived by son, Stevie Davis of the home; sisters, Melvie Ann Duncan of Pelzer, Dora Lee Fountain of Anderson, Eunice Bridges of Piedmont, Myrtle Phillips of Pelzer, and Patricia Knight of Williamston; brothers, Wayne Fricks of Pelzer, Billy Fricks of Toccoa, GA, and David Fricks of MI; four granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held November 1 in the Gray Mortuary Chapel, followed by burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Tillman “Tim” Galloway, Jr.

Williamston – Tillman Hope “Tim” Galloway, Jr., 75, husband of Vicki Edith Shaw Galloway, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022.

   Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late Tillman Hope Galloway, Sr. and Elizabeth Jane Boyce Galloway. Tim retired from Milliken Cushman Plant and Aggressive Realty. A member of Williamston First Baptist Church, he was a past President of the Williamston Sertoma Club, and was the 2003 Saluda Valley Country Club Senior Club Champion.

   He is survived by daughters, Jill Galloway Scharer of Pelzer, Jade Galloway Black (Kevin) of Easley, and Tai Galloway of Williamston; son, Tillman Hope “Trey” Galloway, III (Ashley) of Anderson; thirteen grandchildren, Colby, Dalton, Cade, Weston, Bobby, Catee-Blythe, Beau, Christian, O’Hara, Sage, Joelee, Camden, and Hutton; niece, Kelley Owen McCullough (Johnny) and nephew, Zach Owen (Teresa), and their families.

   He was predeceased by sister, Barbara Galloway Owen.

   Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

   The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Steven Jones

Steven Tyler Jones of Piedmont, 23, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Donald Scott and Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Driver Jones of Piedmont. He was employed with Anthony’s Towing and NAPA Auto Parts in Pelzer. 

 In addition to his parents, he is survived by fiancé, Trinity Skye Eller of Six Mile; grandfather and step-grandmother, Donald and Norma Jones of Liberty.

 Visitation was October 29 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service followed at Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Richard “Bubba” McClellan, Jr.

James Richard “Bubba” McClellan, Jr., of Anderson, 55, husband of Rhonda Faye Looney McClellan, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late James Richard McClellan, Sr., and Barbara Jean Hudson McClellan. He retired from Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital and worked at the Jockey Lot. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, James Michael McClellan of Easley, and daughter, Brittani Michelle McClellan of the home; sister, Shirley Suggs of Pelzer; grandchildren, Hannah Smith and Haylie McClellan of the home.

Visitation was November 1 at Gray Mortuary.  A graveside service followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Phyllis Nichols

Phyllis Gale Harrell Nichols of Pelzer, 80, widow of Harold Franklin Nichols, Sr. passed away Friday, October 28, 2022.

Born in Live Oak, FL, she was a daughter of the late William Eaford and Bessie Ernestine Hall Harrell.  She was a member of First Baptist Church Live Oak in Florida.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Bagwell of Pelzer, Harold Nichols, Jr. of Williamston, Kevin Nichols of Seneca; brother, Thomas Harrell of Sharpsburg, GA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.n.

The family received friends October 30, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel.

Entombment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson.

Rev. Joel Mayfield

Rev. Joel Lester Mayfield of Pelzer, 88, husband of the late Nancy Lollis Mayfield, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Mamie Julia Ward Mayfield.  He retired from Gerber Childrenswear and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Rev. Mayfield was a member of the Pelzer Church of God and pastored at Westside Church of God of Prophecy for 16 years.

   Survivors include son, Joel Anthony Mayfield of Williamston; daughter, Cindy Gail Martin of Pelzer; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

   He was the last member of his immediate family. 

   The family received friends November 1 at    Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.

   Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NHC Healthcare Laurens, 379 Pinehaven St. Ext., Laurens, SC 29360.

The family is at the home of Debra Shaw, 107 Peat Moss Drive, Williamston.

Spencer Spivey, Sr.

Spencer Rheno “Moe” Spivey, Sr of Starr, 71, beloved husband of Renee Spivey, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the home.

He was previously married to the late Pansy Denise Legrand Spivey and the late Mildred Spivey.

Born in Winnsboro, he was a son of the late Rheno and Evelyn Sturckie Spivey. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran and served in Vietnam. He was the owner of Moe’s Dinner in Winnsboro.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Spencer Spivey, Jr. of Winnsboro; Kenneth Surratt of Winnsboro, and Brandon Matthews of Columbia; daughters, Teresa McClain of Columbia and Melissa Moore of Simpsonville; sister, Linda Gail Spivey of Winnsboro; grandchildren raised in the home, Tayvin and Rosie; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was October 31 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed in the mortuary chapel. Entombment was at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors.
