JESSIE MCALISTER Pat Grant, James Lequire, Linda Leonard, Don Garrett,James Gillespie

James Gillespie

James Edward Gillespie of Williamston, 74, husband of Linda Gail Chapman Gillespie, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Born in Anderson County on February 3, 1948, he was a son of the late Truman Lee and Ruth Hamby Gillespie. He retired from Mount Vernon Mills.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, James Michael “Mike” Gillespie of Oconee; daughter, Tonya Michelle Martin of Westminster; sister, Betty Gillespie of Honea Path; brother, DeWitt Gillespie; one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

   The funeral will be held Thursday, February 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Don Garrett

Thomas Aaron “Don” Garrett of Pelzer, 80, husband of Brenda Faye Godfrey Garrett, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, following a 16-month-long battle with ALS.

Born in Greenville on March 6, 1942, he was a son of the late Frances Roddy. Upon her passing, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Earl and Elizabeth Jackson. Was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of Washington Baptist Church. He retired from Arbor Engineering. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Daniel Garrett of Dacusville; daughter, Shannon Garrett of Pelzer; daughter, Lily Garrett of the home; sister, Debbie Nelson of Greenville; half-brothers, John and Billy Garrett of Kentucky; grandchildren, Levi Garrett, Austin Garrett, Daisy Garrett, Anabel Keryan, and Cooper McIntosh.

A memorial service was held January 28 at Washington Baptist Church, 208 Washington Church Road, Pelzer.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries, P.O. Box 2546, Greenville, SC 29602.

Linda Leonard

Linda Ann Cooper Leonard of Pelzer, 78, wife of the late James Gaston Leonard, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

Her parents were late Rev. Dewey Thomas and Edna Gillespie Cooper. A homemaker, she was a member of Set Free Church, and a former member of River of Life Tabernacle and Living Sanctuary. 

She is survived by daughter, Robin Kay; sons, Rodney Leonard, Timothy “Timmy” Leonard, Ronnie Leonard, and Donnie Leonard; siblings, Joyce Lister, Ido Paige, Rachel McClure, and Rev. Larry Cooper; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held January 28 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

James Lequire

Jesse James Lequire, 69,  of Williamston, husband of the late Laura Elizabeth Dickson Lequire, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Born and raised in Greer, he was a son of the late Jesse Lawson and Lucile Williams Lequire. He retired from Hilton Display in Greenville.

He is survived by his daughters, Wendy King, Rachel Petty, and Margaret Anne Carter; brothers, Leroy Williams, Jerry and Wayne Lequire; sister, Carol Burgess; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 2, at 1:00 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church. The family will greet friends following the service.

Pat Grant

Tommy Ray “Pat” Grant, Sr., 83 of Williamston, husband of the late Donna Jean Kerr Grant, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Ruth Ann Grant Etris. In addition to his mother, he was raised by his grandparents, the late James and Kate Grant. He retired as the owner and operator from Grant’s Countertops. He was a member of Agnew Road Baptist Church and attended New Life Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Tommie R. “Tommy” Grant, Jr. of Williamston; daughters, Debbie Smith Howell of Six Mile and Kristie Chappell of Williamston; brothers, Lee Etris of Yosemite, KY and O’dell Etris of Greenville; sisters, Carol Blakley and Linda Etris Bentley, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday, January 30 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with entombment at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

JESSIE MCALISTER

Jessie McAlister, 89, of 107 Walton Drive, Williamston passed away January 23, 2023. He was born July 1, 1933 to the late Jessie and Bessie McAlister.

He retired from Cryovac, Simpsonville.

He attended Restoration Chapel and was a member of Pelzer Church of God for 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, Maryland; daughter Deborah Lockaby  (Tommy) of Pendleton; stepson Tim Farmer (Mary) of Williamston; stepdaughters Pam Onley (Mark) and Pat Farmer, all of Columbia SC; grandsons Michael Lockaby of Pendleton and Matthew Lockaby of Williamston. Also, two great-grandsons and two step-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Bessie; his wife Joyce, two brothers and six sisters.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 5 at 4 pm at Restoration Chapel, 1000 Academy Street, Williamston, Pastor Bobby Winburn.

Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, SC
