Woodmont to induct five into Athletic Hall of Fame

The Woodmont High School Athletic Hall of Fame will honor their 4th class induction during the home basketball game with J. L. Mann High School this Friday, Jan. 20. The five inductees in this year’s class (Class of 2016) are Shane Godfrey, Ricky McCombs, Michael Sanders, Sandy Cash, and Cindy Cash. The start time for the double-header of games is 6 pm.

Hall of Fame inductees to be recognized at Woodmont

The very first Woodmont High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be recognized on October 18, at halftime of the Woodmont home game against Easley. Plaques will be presented to the HOF inductees that will replicate the originals hanging in the Commons at Woodmont High School.

The Class of 2013 was recently announced by the Woodmont Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and includes twenty athletes, coaches, or athletic directors that have made a positive impact on Woodmont High and the community. Included are: Ben Abrams, Jeff Bell, Stan Candler, Steve Candler, Jack Candler, Dennis Cannon, Zach Chandler, Lourenco Fowler, Fred Gilliam, Mo Howard, Lamont Jones, Beth Kendall, Angie McCullough, Sonya McNeil, Steven Owens, Steve Ward, Shaun White, Alfred Whitt, Janice Wilkins and Attala Young.

Veterans to be honored at Woodmont vs. Riverside game

The Woodmont-Riverside football game this Friday night will feature several special events honoring veterans.

“We are dedicating this game to honor and remember all the families, men and women that have sacrificed so much for our freedom,” said Woodmont Athletic Booster President Sophia Jackson. “We hope to have our stands filled with American Flags waving in honor of the local VFW men and women, wounded warriors and other veterans in our stands this evening.”

To start things off, the game ball is being flown in by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and will be walked onto the field and presented to the game officials by local Wounded Warriors.

Woodmont honors Candler naming press box in his honor

During halftime of the Woodmont – Wren football game, Woodmont HIgh School honored legendary player, coach, and athletic director Steve Candler by naming the press box in his honor.

Caandler was recognized for his accomplishments as a Coach and Athletic Director during his time at Woodmont and was also recognized as one of the first inductees into the Woodmont High Athletic Hall of Fame.

Woodmont inducts 1st Hall of Famers

During a special halftime ceremony Friday, the initial Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 was announced by the Woodmont Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. The induction class of 2013 is made up of twenty athletes, coaches, or athletic directors that have made a positive impact on Woodmont and the community.

Trimpe is Woodmont volleyball Coach

Woodmont High School has hired Sarah Trimpe as varsity volleyball coach. Ashley Jenkins, Athletic Director, said, “We are thrilled to add Sarah to our coaching staff…she is dynamic, knowledgeable, and a proven winner. Without the support of several key people, we could not have made this wonderful hire. Our volleyball program is blessed to have a rich parent base and cooperating middle schools.”

Lewis named girls basketball coach at Woodmont

Melissa Lewis has been named the head girls basketball coach at Woodmont High School. After spending the first part of her professional career in Georgia,Lewis returns to South Carolina to be closer to family and to take the reins of the Woodmont Girls Basketball program.

Woodmont Athletic Director, Ashley Jenkins, commented, “Someone as successful as Melissa is an amazing hire for our athletic program. Her leadership and innate drive to be the best is contagious.”

Woodmont Band – Piedmont Parade

The Woodmont Band participated in the Piedmont Christmas Parade Saturday.
