Grand Jury to look into Preston buyout, finances

More than a year after an investigation was begun into the financial operations of Anderson County, as well as the buyout of former administrator Joey Preston’s contract, a state grand jury will be impaneled to investigate those matters. Mark Plowden, spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office, confirmed that Attorney General Henry McMaster had signed the petition seeking the establishment of the state grand jury, and that SLED director Reggie Lloyd had also signed . . .

Council rejects Preston settlement

Anderson County Council rejected an offer Tuesday night by former county administrator Joey Preston to settle the lawsuit the County is pursuing in an effort to recover the $1.2 million Preston received in a contract buyout in November of 2008. The offer, the details of which remain secret, was made during an executive session of the Council toward the end of Tuesday night’s meeting. The executive session lasted just eighteen minutes . . .

Pelzer Avenue still on drawing board

In a 3-2 vote Monday, Williamston Town Council acted on a 90 day deadline deciding not to proceed with the Pelzer Avenue Relocation project, however town officials and developer Jim Simpson said the vote did not kill the project. Williamston Mayor Carthel Crout said that he pushed council for the vote because they needed to act on a 90 day deadline set in December requiring the developer to present the town with a committment from a grocery store . . .

Planning commission could reconsider land appliction

Plans for the upgrade of the Williamston wastewater treatment plant and the installation of a new subsurface irrigation system hit a huge snag last month, when the Anderson Planning Commission denied the Town’s application for a land use permit. Mayor Carthel Crout stated that the Town plans to return for another appearance before the Commission, because they were not notified . . .
