WEST PELZER - Thelma Ruth Jones Fain, 76, of 37 Dendy Street, widow of Robert Fain, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Big Sandy, WV, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Siggie Bertha Blankenship Jones. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are daughter, Darlene Budakovic of Chicago, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Steve and Julia (Judy) Jones of the home; son, Charlie Gibson of Columbia; sister and brother-in-law, Della Jean and Eugene Reed of TN; and five grandchildren. Funeral services and interment will be in Princeton, WV. Memorials may be made to the cancer fund of ones choice. Gray Mortuary, Pelzer is in charge of arrangements.
PELZER - Gary Duane Streetman, 57, husband of Debra Dove Streetman, of 805 Bryant Road, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Mary Elizabeth Gilliard Streetman of Pelzer, and the late Charles L. Streetman. He retired from ServiStar Corporation and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church in Greenville. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughter, Stephanie Streetman Darrow of N. Myrtle Beach; son, Richard Duane Streetman of Chicago, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Streetman of Greenville; sister-in-law, Linda Streetman of Fountain Inn; and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Lynn Streetman. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. May 9 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Roy Lanier and the Rev. Clint Blackwell officiating. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson. The family is at the home and received friends 7-8:30 p.m. May 8 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Fred Bailey, Jr., 73, husband of Gloria M. Bailey, died May 6, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Fred, Sr., and Lillie Mae Bailey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, retired from Fluor Daniel and attended New Spring Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jennifer Lee Whitworth, Glenda A. Clark, and Donna R. Clark; sons, Roger D. Bailey, Randy Manley, John O. Clark, and Michael P. Clark; brothers, Roy and Robert Bailey; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Private memorial services were held.
Ellison Edward Spec Jamison, 90, husband of Ola Pitts Jamison, of Walhalla, died May 12, 2008 at Cottingham Hospice House. A native of Pelzer, he was the son of the late Samuel and Fannie Mae Golden Jamison. He was a retired supervisor at Chicopee Mills and a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church. He was a WWII Veteran in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Sara Avenger of Cross Anchor. He was predeceased by his first wife, Edna Stegall Jamison. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. May 15 in the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca. Rayford William Moore, Jr., 39 of Anderson, died May 10, 2008 in Anderson. Born in Anderson, he was a son of Sharon Worley of Anderson and the late Rayford William Moore, Sr. He was a general contractor. Surviving are his daughter, Rayven Dianna Moore, Samantha Sambo Earnest, raised in the home; brother, Dennis Moore, all of Anderson and grandparents, Ernest and Elise Bowen of Williamston. Funeral service will be held May 17 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. The family will be at the home of his mother, 505 Burris Street in Anderson. Gladys Jean Foster Murphy, 78, of Williamston, died May 12, 2008 at NHC HealthCare of Anderson. Born in Pendleton, she was a daughter of the late J.D. Foster and Katie Elizabeth Bessie Gailey Foster. She was a retired textile mill worker and attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. Surviving are sons, Samuel Eugene Murphy of Anderson, David Lamar Murphy of Starr and Edward Leroy Murphy of Williamston; daughters, Mary M. Bailey of Belton and Jane Elaine Brown of Williamston; brothers, James Foster of Pickens and Charles Foster of Anderson; sister, Mary Nell Owen of Liberty; nine grandchildren, including Tiffiny Murphy and Brooke Murphy, who were raised in the home; ten great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Samuel L. Murphy. Funeral service will be held May 15 at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Temple. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Janie Boyce Gilreath, 76, wife of Joe Thomas Fisher, of Pelzer, died May 7, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mertie Boyce. She retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Tommy Lee Davis, Roger Dale Davis, both of Donalds, and Frank Simpson of Williamston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 10 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Mary Ellen Jones Wrenn, 67, of Piedmont, died May 6, 2008 at her home. She was born in Charleston County to the late Terry Jones and the late Catherine Jones. She was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Siloam Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, William E. Wrenn, Sr.; son, William E Wrenn, II, both of the home; brothers, Terry and Johnny Jones of Charleston; sister, Catherine Jones of Boston, MA; and one granddaughter. Graveside services were held May 9 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals. Memorials may be made to Carolina Childrens Home, Columbia, SC.
William Carroll Hawkins, 51, of Taylors, died May 6, 2008 at Allen Bennett Hospital. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late T.G. and Sue Tate Hawkins. He was employed at Strange Brothers Grading and a member of Wren Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are daughter, Erin Elizabeth Hawkins of Williamston; a son, Neil Hawkins of Madison, Florida; a brother, Arnold Hawkins of Taylors; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held May 9 at Wood Mortuary. Burial followed in Mountain Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Helen Jean Poore, of Anderson died May 6, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late William Harold and Freddie Sims Poore. She retired from J. Marion Campbell & Co. Accounting Firm. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson. Funeral services were held May 9 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel. William Billy Howard Chafin, 77, died May 8, 2008 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Reese E. and Inez Sellers Chafin. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Surviving are two brothers, Joe Chafin of Jacksonville, FL and Jerry Chafin of Powdersville; three sisters, Sue McClain, Mary Adams and Linda Fleming, all of Powdersville. Lucy Bowen Grice, 67, of Burton, formerly of Greenville, died May 8, 2008 at her home. Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Owen Bowen. She was retired from Union Carbide and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, Bobby R. Grice of the home; two daughters, Robbie L. Rogers of Greenville, Rhonda D. Grice of Ocala, FL; two sisters, Evelyn Bowen of Williamston and Dereline Shorts of Lymann; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Edgar Ray Thurston, Sr., 80, of Pelzer, husband of Anna Lou Crone Thurston, died May 10, 2008 at his home. Born in Conestee, he was a son of the late Arthur Erb and Della Abigail Craig Thurston. He was retired from White Horse Mill and was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife of the home; a son, Edgar Ray Thurston, Jr., of Simpsonville; daughters, Vivian L. Greer and Tammy J. Pruitt, both of Easley, Sandra Lee Robison of Greenville, Patricia Ann Thurston of Pelzer; step-son, Kevin Gambrell of Pelzer; sister, Bonnie Mae White of Greenville; brothers, Arthur Ervin Thurston of Travelers Rest, John Robert Thurston of Simpsonville; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Willie Mae Brown Eaton, 85, of Piedmont, widow of Samuel Louis Eaton, died May 9, 2008 at her home. Born in Dahlonega, GA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Johnson Brown. She was a homemaker. Surviving are daughters, Anita Hahn of the home, Janie Hamby and Sammie Center, both of Greenville, Lou Maddox of Augusta, GA, Judy Chalker of Hephzibah, GA, Bonnie Faglier of Evans, GA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Maggie Goodlett of Piedmont, died May 8, 2008 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Goodlett, Sr. and Etta Pilgrim Goodlett and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a niece reared in the home, Nellie Young Sullivan of Piedmont. Funeral service was held May 13 at Watkins, Garrett and Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Raymon R. Reece, 84, of Greer, died May 9, 2008. Born in Pickens, he was the son of the late Walter and Elvie Anderson Reece. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Milliken as a textile manager and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greer. He is survived by his wife, Dora Lou Vaughn Reece of Greer; one son, Richard H. Reece of Greenville; one daughter, Pamela Bryson of Simpsonville; one sister, Lillie Kelley of Piedmont; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 13 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Ballentine of Piedmont; sisters, Ida Mae Beal of Belton, Jean Simmons of Greenville and Denise Ballentine of Anderson; brothers, J.C. Ballentine and Leo Ballentine, both of Belton, Rev. Sarah Lollis Medlin, 74, of Greenville, widow of Edgar L. Medlin, died May 9, 2008 at her home. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Helen McCuen Lollis. She was retired from J.P. Stevens. Surviving are four daughters, Debra Mahaffey of Greenville, Betty Phillips of Piedmont, Cynthia Kallenbach of Easley and Cheryl Worthen of Greenville; a son, Wayne Medlin of Easley; a brother, Arnold Lollis, Jr. of Pelzer; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside service was held May 12 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Sharon Winkler Horne, 57, of Pelzer, died May 9, 2008. Born in Seneca, she was the wife of James Kenneth Horne and a daughter of Raymond and Frances Ivester Winkler. She was a homemaker, and a member of Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer. Surviving in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Melissa Sherburn of Pickens; four sons, Thomas Wood and Marcus Wood, both of Anderson, Eric Horne and Jason Wood, both of Pelzer; two sisters, Shirley Weaver of Spring Valley, CA and Susan Finley of Easley; a brother, Tim Winkler of Greenville; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held May 12 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.
Mary Malveen Holland, 84, of Greenville, died May 10, 2008. The daughter of Benjamin Grady Greer and Beulah Gertrude Crenshaw, she was born in Pelzer. She is predeceased by her husband, Carl Branson Holland. Surviving are daughters, Patricia Ostendorff of Greenville, Debra Holland of Charlotte, NC; son, Greer Holland of Greenville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Charles David Ross, 87, of Greenville, died May 10, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Piedmont, he was the husband of Cecil Speights Ross and the son of the late Thomas E. and Kizzie Henson Ross. He was a WWII Army veteran. He retired from J.P. Stevens Monaghan Plant as a Plant Engineer and was a member of Monaghan Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are; two daughters, Linda Ross Thigpen of Travelers Rest, Dr. Connie Gene Ross, M.D. of Rutherfordton, NC; a sister, Mildred R. Poole of Easley; a brother, Jesse T. Ross of Easley; two granddaughters, Kerri T. Burns of Travelers Rest, Katherine T. Hawkins of Greenville; and one great-grandson. Funeral service was held May 12 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
