Readies grass truck to reach remote fire – off River Road

Area projects delayed by weather

The wet cold winter has slowed a number of construction projects in the area, including the Powdersville YMCA facility, and the Wren Fire Department Station 24. According to an onsite crew chief at the Y, work has been slowed by the weather, but facility should still open sometime in July as projected. Future forecasts for warmer, drier weather for the next week or so have given cause for optimism. Roebuck Buildings, of Spartanburg, expects to regain lost time and meet the original construction schedule.

Motorcyclist injured – Highway 86

Four injured – Hwy. 8 & Rogers Road

Four people were injured Thursday night in a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 8 and Rogers Road. A sport utility vehicle and Toyota collided in the intersection Three people in the Toyota and the driver of the Jeep SUV were taken to the hospital by Pelzer EMS and Medshore Ambulance Service. Single vehicle accident on I-85

Produce truck overturns – Hwy. 86

The Wren Fire Department responded Friday (Dec. 26) to an accident on Hwy. 86 in which a truck filled with produce hit mail boxes before crossing the road and overturning. The load of produce had to be off-loaded to another truck. The driver was not hurt.

Truck tires catch fire – I-85

Powdersville firefighters extinguish the rear tractor tires of a tractor – tanker on I-85 on Saturday afternoon. The rear tires of the cab caught fire and the driver dropped the trailer and pulled the burning truck away. Traffic was slowed as emergency workers had two lanes closed south bound near River Road. Pelzer EMS stood by as a precaution as firefighters fought the blaze. The tanker was carrying latex. Anderson county Haz-Mat and also Wren firefighters were placed on standby.Photo by David Rogers)
