Anderson County Sheriff’s investigators have charged six people in connection with a theft ring that stole at least nine vehicles from the Piedmont and Powdersville area in recent weeks. Five of the people are from Anderson County, Sheriff’s spokesman Chad McBride said. Those arrested in the car theft ring include: Frankie Hugh Brooks 24, of 232 Country Glen, Pelzer; Donna Renea Davis, 35, of 1124 Williams Rd. Piedmont; Cameron Drake Clark, 18, of 7 Little Beaver Creek Rd, Williamston; Kenneth Joe Harris, 31, of 302 Garren Rd. Belton and Summer Nicole Smith, 20, of Pendleton Ct. Easley. Those arrested were charged and placed at the Anderson County Detention Center where they awaited a bond hearing.

Investigators are still looking for the sixth person, Danny Joe Axson Jr, 36, of Charleston. Axson is charged with grand larceny and conspiracy.

“They’ve been really active in the past three weeks or so,” McBride said. “Their mode of operation has been to drive around to gas stations and target cars that are running. One of the people would hop out and steal the car, and then some of the people in the ring would work on getting the stolen vehicles to chop shops.”

McBride said the six are accused of being part of a theft ring and face a total of at least 37 charges including conspiracy, grand larceny and possession of and receiving stolen goods.

Investigators ask anyone with information on Axson to call Anderson Area Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
