Officials from the Anderson County Planning Department have confirmed that an O’Reilly Auto Parts store is coming to Piedmont soon.

“They are making some minor changes to their grading and stormwater permit applications, and once we receive those, their building permits will be issued,” said Bill West.

According to those applications, the construction will disturb 1.6 acres of the three acre site, which is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Hwy. 86 and Old River Road.

The store will be 6750 square feet and will carry a full line of auto parts and accessories. O’Reilly’s is a well known chain with locations in Anderson and Greenville as well.

Piedmont Public Service Commission Chairman Ed Poore, when contacted for comment, pointed out that the new store is the first sign of growth in Piedmont since the sewer rehabilitation project led to DHEC’s lifting of the consent order that had kept any real growth from occurring in the town.

The public service commission recently signed over its decrepit sewer system to Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict which is in the process of replacing the lines. Metropolitan has assumed responsibility for the system and its operation.

“Good things happen to good people who do good things,” said Poore. “This is just the first sign of economic growth in Piedmont. This is very good news.”
