Anderson County Sheriff’s Office CATCH (Criminal Apprehension Through Community Help) Team K-9 Unit recently completed certification courses held by the APCA (American Police Canine Association). Each of the five K-9’s and their handlers completed the courses successfully.

The certification requires the K-9’s and handlers to qualify in several events including tracking, narcotics detection, building searches, article searches, aggression control, and obedience. Two members of the K-9 unit and their handlers went on to complete top certification honors in very demanding certification course offered by the APCA.

Deputy Brandon Surratt with K-9 partner Hyco and Deputy Sean Proner with K-9 partner Gizmo completed APCA’s level III certification recognizing both sets of partners as some of the top certified units in the nation.

Out of sixteen of the highest certified K-9’s and their handlers nationwide, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has two of them. The K-9 officers and partners will be recognized and awarded later this year in Indiana.
