Anderson School District One was recently invited to share the district ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program by the South Carolina Department of Education. “Serving Second Language English Language Students in Districts with Small EL Populations” was the topic of the presentation. The February 2012 ESOL Update focused on how Anderson One’s ESOL program that focuses on developing an English-rich environment that supports their ELs in successfully and rapidly becoming proficient in English. About 3% of the Anderson One population is ESOL. The schools are using data to drive and inform decisions along with relationship building as the crucial elements of a successful ESOL program. The ESOL teachers in Anderson One are the key to a very successful program.
