The Anderson County Art Museum will host an exhibition that is one of the state’s largest juried shows with over 600 pieces of art! The Anderson Arts Center will be accepting entries on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Artists can enter one or two pieces for $30, with a chance for over $13,000 in awards plus multiple exhibition opportunities including our new “Art on the Town” Gallery Crawl with participating downtown Anderson businesses. This year, our juror will be Karen Derksen. Derksen currently lectures in art history and visual communication design history for the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Design at Winthrop. She served as assistant director of the Winthrop University Galleries from July 2007 through September 2010, and became the director of the Winthrop University Galleries in October 2010. Prior her employment with the Winthrop University Galleries, Derksen was the director of Winthrop University’s Office of Community Arts in 2006-2007; she managed the Winthrop University permanent art collections for two years; and she served as the interim director of the Winthrop University Galleries in the Spring 2004.
Derksen received a M.A. in arts administration from Winthrop and a B.A. in art history (curatorial studies) from the University of Regina. She has continued her education in design, computer technology, web design, graphic communication, mass communications, and public relations.
On Saturday evening March 31, we are planning a unique opportunity, Member’s Preview, to view the numerous works of art at a party for Members, Purchase Award Donors and Merit Award Contributors. An admission fee of $10.00 per person will be charged. Doors open at 5:30pm.
On Sunday, April 1 from 1:00 to 4:00pm, we are planning a family fun day called m•ART•ket. The m•ART•ket is a preview and sale of all submitted works that will be available for area collectors, designers and the general public. This is your chance to purchase a variety of local artwork from oils, acrylics, sculpture, photography, mixed media, drawings, etc. It’s a visual extravaganza!
The opening reception will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 13, 2012. The opening is open and free to the public. The exhibition will be on display
