Books were open for filing through March 5 and only one candidate had filed petitions to be on the ballot for the Town of Pelzer mayor election. That is current mayor pro tem Steve McGregor. According to Town Administrator Skip Watkins, no other person filed as an opposing candidate.

The Municipal Election Commission of the Town of Pelzer has previously announced and advertised the special election for Town of Pelzer to be Tuesday, May 8, 2012. The office included in this election is for Mayor.

Any eligible Pelzer resident(s) desiring to run as a write-in candidate for the office of mayor may submit a letter stating their intention to run for office as a write-in candidate at Pelzer Town Hall, 103 Courtney Street in Pelzer. Letters of intent will be accepted for filing until 4 p.m. on March 19. At time of submission, write-in candidates must also complete the appropriate State Ethics Commission forms on the Ethics Commission website.

If there are no qualified filings as a write-in candidate submitted by the deadline, the Municipal Election Commission will proceed to certify the candidate who filed petitions as elected for the position.

There is no filing fee for this office. This is a nonpartisan election and has no party affiliation.
