Callaham named principal for Palmetto High School

Anderson School District One and the School Board of Trustees have named Ray Callaham to be the new principal of Palmetto High School. He has been serving as assistant principal at Wren High for the past five years.

Mr. Callaham said, “Palmetto High School has an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of all students and continuously striving for improvements in its efforts to create a learning environment that recognizes the ever changing demands of our community and the world. It is with great pride and excitement that I join this strong team of educators! It is good to be returning to Mustang country.”

Mr. Callaham has a total of 8 years classroom experience as a ninth grade science teacher and was an athletic coach. He also has 18 years of management experience with Duke Energy. He holds a masters degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University. His undergraduate work was completed at Erskine College in 1976.

Superintendent, Dr. Wayne Fowler said, “Ray Callaham has developed a reputation as an effective educational leader and he has the necessary skills to ensure that Palmetto High will maintain a tradition of excellence.”

He is married to Ann Callaham who is retired from teaching in Anderson One. He has three children and three grandchildren. Mr. Callaham, Ann and their children all graduated from Palmetto High School.

Mr. Callaham is filling the position vacated by former Palmetto High principal, Dr. Mason Gary, who was hired as the new superintendent for Anderson District Three for 2012-13. He will assume his new duties at Palmetto High School on July 1, 2012.
