Barbecue cookoff and festival starts Friday

The Pig in the Park Barbecue Cookoff will be held May 18 and 19 in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park. Activites will begin on Friday at 12 noon with barbecue and food sales, craft vendors, children’s play area and live entertainment by Barnyard on a Freight Train singing country music.

Saturday will have more of the same beginning at 10 a.m. Judging of barbecue begins at 10 a.m. with awards at 1 p.m. Music will be provided by Diamonds and Rust.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, wrist bands will be available for all-you-can-eat barbecue samples for $10, while supply lasts.

Organizers encourage you to bring a lawn chair and enjoy a fun-filled day of entertainment, food and good family fun.

Cookoff competitors include: Big GQ, Garland Hudgins; Cookers Unlimited LLC, Martin Cox; Nard’s Backyard BBQ, Randall Knight; Bold Branch Bar-B-Q Boys, Joe Hilliard; The Pompous Pig, George “Chet” Newson; County Line Que, Tim Cooke; Big Hawg’s Southern BBQ, Michael Rogers and Smokin’ Hawg, Tim McCall.

Also Fatboys Barbeque LLC, Rick Wynn; Swig-n-Pig, Andrew Massey; On the Spot BBQ, Ronnie Bishop; R & R BBQ, Ronnie Neely; Blind Swine BBQ, Mike Sanders; The Smokin’ Grill, Kenneth Scales; Greenwood Smoke, William Holladay and HAWG KOOKIN, Ronnie Bradberry.

Net proceeds of the event will be donated to: Christian Learning Center, Operation Care and Williamston Masonic Lodge No 24.
