Hwy. 8 fatality


A Pelzer man was killed Monday when the Chevrolet HHR he was driving collided head on with a tractor trailer truck on the Hwy. 8 bridge over the Saluda River. According to authorities, Brent Edwin Waddell, 37 was on his way home to console his daughter whose dog had been struck and killed by a car.

Waddell crossed the center line and struck a tractor trailer driven by Ricky Hubbard of Macon, Ga. According to officials, cause of death was blunt force trauma. Waddell was wearing his seat belt at the time and was about three miles from home when the accident occurred. The accident closed the bridge from 4 p.m. till approximately 8 p.m. West Pelzer and South Greenville firefighters responded to the scene along with Pelzer and Greenville County EMS.
