Two arrested in barrel murders

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two suspects in connection with the dual homicide investigations involving the remains of a woman and man found in barrels in Lake Hartwell. John Michael Young, 35, of 3605 Centerville Rd., Anderson and Shaine David Fischer, 34, of 419 W. Whitner St. Anderson are facing charges.

Fischer is currently being housed at the Anderson County Detention Center. He faces charges of unauthorized removal of a dead body and two counts ob being an accessory after the fact. Young is charged with two counts of murder and one count of unauthorized removal of a dead body. He faces up to 30 years or life in prison if he is found guilty on a murder charge, officials said.

He was denied bond Saturday in the charges of unauthorized removal, unlawful possession of a handgun and illegal possession of narcotic drugs, however Anderson County magistrate James Cox said he could not set bond for a defendant facing murder charges and a second bond hearing will be scheduled with a circuit court juge in a couple of weeks.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Investigators located a suspicious barrel near Asbury Park at Lake Hartwell lst week.The first barrel found near Asbury Park at Lake Hartwell contained human female remains identified Andrea Kellie Mitchell, 37. A second barrel was located in Lake Hartwell near the intersection of Centerville Rd and Sandy Springs Rd. An autopsy revealed the identity of the second victim as Tony Lamar McGinnis, 53, who was reported missing earlier this month.

Both died from blows to the head, autopsies showed.
