A Candlelighting Service of Remembrance was held Thursday at the Williamston Cemetery. Family, friends and the public were invited to light candles on the graves of their loved ones and those buried in the historic cemetery who no longer have living relatives in the area. Candles were placed on all graves in the cemetery, along the front wall and a cross of candles was in the center. Former Mayor Phillip Clardy headed a brief ceremony prior to the lighting of the candles. The candles remained lit for a period after dark for persons to view them.
