Burgess running for Ward 2 seat

Williamston resident Rocky Burgess announced recently that he is running for the Williamston Ward 2 Council seat. The seat came open when Mack Durham was elected mayor and took office on Jan. 2.

Burgess is a lifelong resident of the town and currently owns a business located in the town. He also recently served as head of the town’s election commission.

“I have a vested interest in this town and its continued success,” Burgess said. “With your help and your vote, I will work hard to ensure a successful future for our town.”

Burgess said his goals if elected are to ensure that the town controls expenses and maintains a solid financial footing for the present and future.

He said he will work with the mayor and council to ensure that recommendations for the town made by town auditors are implemented in a timely manner.

He wants to revisit current ordinances to make sure that they are clear, well defined and applicable.

He said he will work to secure grant funding for continued enhancements to the town.

He said he wants to maintain an open and honest local government.

Burgess wants to promote the town of Wililamston and surrounding communities as a great place to start or to locate a business.

He also wants to work to promote harmony among elected officials and the community as a whole.
