The West Pelzer Police Department investigation of an incident of embezzlement involving a member of the West Pelzer Elementary School PTO has been closed with no charges filed. According to West Pelzer Police Chief M. D. Clardy, the investigation initially showed approximately $3300 of PTO funds were taken and converted to personal use by the PTO treasurer at the time. During the investigation, it was determined an additional $1000 was missing from the account, Chief Clardy said.

Clardy said the investigation has now been completed and the School District does not want to prosecute the case, so all charges have been dropped and the case is now closed.

In a statement issued May 2, Clardy said that the PTO Treasurer admitted taking the funds in 2011 and that she had made deposits from her personal account to repay the money that was taken. The entire amount has been repaid, according to Chief Clardy.
