Local contractor Wendell Ellison opens up a controlled break in the pond dam located in Williamston. The break will allow the water level to drop so that DHEC officials can evaluate what will be required to make the dam safe. Ellison scooped out a drainage path with the trac backhoe before creating the opening.
The pond water is draining to a ditch located behind houses several houses on Bigby St. and eventually back into the original creek line from a second pond on the property. The pond was recently leased to a local man who stocked it with fish just before DHEC notified the property owners that there was a problem with small leaks.
