Pelzer man facing charges after toll booth incident

A Pelzer man is facing charges of criminal domestic violence and kidnapping following an incident at the toll booth on the Southern Connector last Thursday night, August 8. Steven Dale White, 37, 108 Eastview Rd. in Pelzer was arrested after deputies responded to a 911 call.

According to reports, White was driving a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when it approached the toll booth. According to the warrants obtained by Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputy Erich Weinmueller, a woman fled the truck when it stopped. Surveillance video from the toll booth showed White chased her around the toll booth several times before catching her and forcibly returning her to the truck, which he then drove off.

The woman, whose name and description were withheld by GCSO, was screaming and kicking the entire time. She later told the deputies that she and White have lived together for more than a year. She also stated that she feared for her safety during the incident. She was unharmed during the incident.

After reviewing the video footage, White was identified and warrants were obtained and served on White. According to GCSO Master Deputy Jonathon Smith, White remained in the Greenville County Detention Center at the time of this article. Bond is set at $35,242.
