The Williamston Police Department assisted with a hit and run incident in which a Williamston man was apparently struck from behind by a vehicle as he was walking on Hwy. 20 Conn. near Ashley Drive just outside the town limits.
According to reports, Jerry Michael Elgin, 40, 3 Gray Dr., Williamston was found lying in the grass on the shoulder of the road with injuries.
He also said he was walking home to 3 Gray Drive from AnMed Hospital when he was struck by a vehicle which did not stop. The vehicle was described as a faded yellow four door sedan. EMS transported him to AnMed Health. Sgt. K. J. Winn and West Pelzer Chief Mike Clardy initially investigated. The scene and investigation was turned over to the SC Hwy. Patrol.
