The Town of Williamston is the eighth municipality to join the Main Street South Carolina program. Main Street South Carolina is a program of the Municipal Association of South Carolina that empowers residents, business owners and local officials with the knowledge, skills, tools and organizational structure necessary to revitalize their downtowns, neighborhood commercial districts and cities/towns into vibrant centers of commerce and community.

The Town of Williamston is located in Anderson County with a population of almost 4,000 residents and boasts a rich history with a great potential for growth and development.

Williamston’s program will be managed by the town and its offices will be located in town hall. Town councilmembers are in the process of hiring a program manager.

“The implementation of our Main Street SC program brings with it much excitement and anticipation of effective positive change in our downtown core commercial area,” said Town of Williamston Mayor Mack Durham. “The vibrancy of our community is intimately connected to the success of this initiative. For that reason, I am very pleased to see us implement a quality program that brings us robust resources and a history of proven potential. Realizing that potential will be up to us now, and we feel empowered.”

“We are pleased to welcome Williamston to the Main Street South Carolina program,” said Beppie LeGrand, Main Street SC manager. “Williamston is a town poised for growth and new opportunities in its downtown. We will use best practices to gradually strengthen the economic base and build community pride. The local elected officials are playing a major role in the revitalization process and this is a positive move for the town.”

Main Street South Carolina follows the National Main Street’s Four Point Approach – Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring. Each year, Main Street South Carolina recognizes members’ achievements and successes in downtown revitalization through its Inspiration Awards.
