Two people escaped serious injury Thursday night after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a West Pelzer police car. The 21 year old man driving and a 16 year old female passenger were observed by a West Pelzer police officer at the intersection of SC 20 and SC 8 allegedly driving erratic. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle but the driver fled. According to West Pelzer police chief Mike Clardy the female reportedly kept telling the driver to stop. The motorcyclist traveled north on SC 20 and turned onto Woodcock Road with no lights on. As the motorcycle was traveling on Woodcock Road the driver slammed on brakes on an icy stretch of road in front of the patrol car. The patrol car was unable to stop and collided with the motorcycle according to Chief Clardy. The pair were knocked from the motorcycle. The two suffered cuts and scrapes but refused to be taken to the hospital when Pelzer EMS arrived. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
