Williamston Council to discuss festival funding

Williamston Town Council will decide on funding for three community festival events and whether the town will allow fuel stations on highway commercial zoned properties when the meet Monday, Mar. 3 at 6 p.m. At the beginning of the meeting, there will be a public hearing concerning a petition filed by Family Dollar Stores to annex property where their recently opened store is located into the town limits. The property, located at 1505 Anderson Drive, is 1.03 acres located between Foster Road and Anderson Drive.

Following the annexation hearing, Council will hear public comments and special requests and reports.

Eight different presentations are on the agenda.

Old business will include acting on the annexation request.

New Business includes vote on a memorandum of understanding with the Palmetto Cultural Arts Center lease of the armory building; request for funding for Spring Water Festival; date for Homestead Festival; request for funding for Easter Weekend Community Festival; and request for funding for Defenders Motorcycle Club.

Council will also entertain first reading amending the zoning ordinance to allow fuel stations in Highway Commercial zoned property.

Prior to the meeting, there will be a presentation to retiring Parks and Recreation Director Dale Martin followed by a drop-in for him.
