LARRY EDWARD MEEKS
Larry Edward Meeks, 69, of Pelzer, husband of Martha Davis Meeks, died Monday, July 21, 2014.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Marvin Lewis and Dollie Storay Meeks. He was retired from Dow Chemical and a member of Washington Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Jeremy Meeks of Laurens; brother, James Meeks and sister, Doris Jackson, both of Williston; and one grandson.
Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 25 at Washington Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of Jeremy Meeks, 104 Lazy Days Walk, Laurens.
MARY JEAN KING

Mary Jean Crocker King, 81, of Greenwood, widow of Charles William King, died July 16, 2014.
Born in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Ezell and Eunice Crocker. She was a homemaker and a member of Ninety-Six Congressional Holiness Church.
She is survived by a son, Steve King of Greenwood; a brother, Bobby Neil of Ware Place; four grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19 in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.,

DOT GRIFFITH
GREENVILLE – Dorothy “Dot” Marie Bivens Griffith, 82, widow of Albert Patrick Griffith, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at her home.
Born in Ross Creek, TN, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Bessie Novella Meeks Bivens. She was a homemaker whose hobbies were gardening, crocheting and painting. She was a people lover and a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Priscilla Colburn, of Greenville, Genevieve Holder, of Piedmont, Donna Jacobs, of Greenville, and Anita McJunkins, of Dacusville; sons, Robert A. Griffith, of Pelzer, and Terry Griffith, of Honea Path; sisters, Goldie Walsingham, of Tracy City, TN; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by granddaughters, Robin Griffith and Chara Lee Sprinkle; great-grandson, Bryson Bellue; three brothers; and four sisters.
Visitation was 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the funeral home chapel with burial following at Graceland West Cemetery.
Live flowers are preferred.

CECIL ALVERSON
PELZER – James Cecil Alverson, 91, of the Woodville Community, husband of Dorothy “Dot” Smith Alverson, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Jodie and Lillie Bagwell Alverson. Cecil bravely served his country in a tank battalion in central Germany during World War II. He and his wife, Dot, were the proud owners of Alverson’s Grocery on Highway 25 until their retirement in 1991. He was a member of Waycross Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by son, Lanny Alverson (Debbie); grandchildren, Chad Alverson (Stephanie), Carey Alverson (Adrianne), and Brandi Garrett; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathleen Alverson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by daughter, Melanie Garrett; and brothers, Russell and Lewis Alverson.
Visitation was 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Baptist Church Cemetery.
Family members are at their respective homes.

CHASE COTTRELL
Alan Chase Cottrell, 16, of Pelzer, died July 14, 2014.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of Jason Alan Cottrell and Angela Shae Coleman White. He was a J. V. football player at Palmetto High School and a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by great-grandparents, Sam and Jean Cothran, and Margaret Glenn; grandparents, James Coleman, Jeff and Terry Cottrell; sisters, Jordan Cottrell, Gracen Ricketts, Tammy Bowling and Lynn LeCroy; and brothers, Austin Huffman, Blake Cottrell, Preston Brookshire, Dru Cottrell and Cody Fuller.
The funeral was held Friday at Beech Springs Tabernacle. Burial followed at Beech Springs Cemetery.

JOHN WESLEY SLOAN
A celebration of life service was held for John Wesley Sloan on Saturday, July 19, 2014 in the chapel of The Unity Mortuary of Anderson. Burial followed in the MB Owens Cemetery at Mt. Able Baptist Church in Pendleton.
He is survived by children, Wesley Jevon Sloan and Shenika Maxwell, both of Anderson; sisters, Bettye Cannon, Victoria Lovelist, and Melinda Dean; one brother, Anthony Dean and Donnie Vaugh Lovelist.
He was a Vietnam Veteran, and son of the late John Wesley Sloan and Etrulia Lovelist Dean.

CRYSTAL EMERY
Crystal Bayne Emery, 55, of Pelzer, wife of Jerry M. Emery, died July 16, 2014.
Born in W. Palm Beach, FL, she was a daughter of the late George Olen and Ette Smith Bayne. She was a homemaker and member of Rock Hill Baptist Church in Fair Play.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Echo Alspaugh of Pelzer; sisters, Melody Thompson and Rita Brooks; brother, Donald Bayne; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Friday, July 18 at Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

WILLIAM ‘BILL’ ASHER
William “Bill” Asher, 56, husband of Nancy Paulson Asher, of Anderson, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at his home.
Born in Oakland, CA, he was son of Bob Asher and the late Juanita Marie Bowen Reyes.
He was a former security guard with American Security.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by stepfather, Hector Reyes; two sons, William Asher of Anderson and Leo Asher of Piedmont; daughter, Bobbie Joe Asher of Greenwood; four brothers, Tony Reyes, Robert Asher, John Asher and Michael Reyes; three sisters, Susan Land, JoAnna Casey and Jeannie Ervin; and eight grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 24 in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Abbeville.

KEN KELLEY
Kenneth Albert Kelley, 61, of Williamston, husband of Gwen Cox Kelley, died Monday, July 21, 2014.
Born in Selma, AL, he was a son of Peggy Joyce Campbell Kelley and the late Jack Arnison Kelley.  He was employed with Milliken and a Baptist.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Scott Kelley of Folly Beach; daughter, Amber Kelley of Williamston; his mother of Williamston; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
The family is at the home of his mother, 106 Mahaffey Rd., Williamston.
