The West Pelzer Municipal Election Commission was brought back up to full strength last week, as Pat Black and Pat Alexander were sworn in by Chairman Jerry “Pete” Riddle.

The swearing in restored the Commission prior to this week’s midterm general election, even though West Pelzer will not hold their special election to fill the town council seat vacated by Robert Alexander until December 30. The filing for the vacant seat opened on Friday, October 31, the day after the swearing in ceremony. Filing closes on November 14.

The new members were given a handbook which addresses the details of current election law; some of which has changed recently. For example, candidates for town offices no longer have to obtain a certain number of signatures on a petition.

A member of the Commission will be on hand at the municipal polling location throughout the voting on December 30. Alexander resigned from the town council after relocating outside the town limits.
