Angels Unaware, a local, volunteer organization is asking for special donations for a special project.

“Angels Unaware” takes donated wedding gowns, prom dresses and other special occasion dresses and remakes them into the tiny “Angel Gowns”, “Angel Wraps” and “Angel Bonnets” for the precious little ones that are born too early, are stillborn or just can’t make it,” said coordinator Ramona Tucker.

“These beautiful little burial outfits are given to area hospitals and funeral homes who then provide them to the families, at no cost. All work put into getting the donated gowns, making the tiny burial outfits and shipping of supplies and materials to seamstresses is donated.”

The organization is in the process of applying for 501(c)3 non-profit status.

“The need for these little Angel Gowns is greater than most people realize,” tucker said. “Since June we have provided over 200 gowns to St. Francis Bon Secours (Eastside), the Greenville Health System and many area funeral homes. “

Angels Unaware is now asking for the help of the community to continue the program. They are in need of ribbon, lace, thread, tiny buttons and bows, small hangers, tissue and boxes and so much more that is used to complete the gowns. The organization meets Tuesdays at Trinity Baptist Tabernacle, 824 Piedmont Hwy (Hwy 20) and work together as a group to make mother/infant bracelets, Moses Basket blankets, prayer shawls, and infant hats.

“Our volunteer seamstresses work hard at their homes to make the precious Angel Gowns, Angel Wraps and Angel Bonnets,” Tucker said. “We accept wedding gowns, prom dresses and other special occasion dresses and donations of the other materials needed.”
