LARRY NORTON

Alvin Larry Norton, 72, of Piedmont, husband of Joan Reid Norton, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown Greenville.

He was born in Travelers Rest to the late Alvin Harold and Edna Spake Norton.

He retired from Graybar Electric, served in the Army Reserves and was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sisters, Mae Horton Edwards and Doris Jones, both of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

JAMES WALTER KELLY JR.

James Walter Kelly, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late James W. Kelly and the late Ruth Margaret Norris Kelly.

He was a World War II veteran and POW serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was an architect and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Delle Daniel Kelly; son, James W. Kelly, III of Asheburn, VA; daughters, Suzanne Chapman of Anderson, Merry Rodgers of Columbia, Jeanne’ Baylor of Upland, CA, and Frances Fleck of Atlanta, GA; brother, Harold Kelly of Greenville; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, January 19 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

“MARK” MOORE

PELZER – Marcus “Mark” Floyd Moore, 60, husband of Sheila Turner Moore, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Rufus Arix and Irene Owen Moore.  He was employed with the S.C. Department of Transportation and a member of Eastview Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Amanda Moore Drew of Piedmont, Melissa Moore Flowers (Clint) of Euless, TX, son, Marcus Clint Moore (Katie) of Pelzer; step-sons, Johnny R. Moore (Melinda) of Pickens, Wayne Moore (Katie) of Easley; sisters, Jo Ellen Blaine of Durham, NC, Ruth Pruitt of Mauldin, Becky Kelley of Piedmont; brothers, Ronnie Moore of Belton, Cliff Moore of Mauldin; eight grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 4:00 – 6:00 Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 Monday at Eastview Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastview Baptist Church Building Fund, 120 Eastview Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

‘MIKE’ HOLLIDAY

Jerry Michael “Mike” Holliday, 67, of Belton, husband of Kathy Bracken Holliday, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at his home.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Robert Bertran and Annie Cothran Holliday.  He was retired from Greenville County School District and was a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Jerry Holliday of Pelzer, step-sons, Lee Hammonds of Easley, Joel Hammonds of Belton; six grandsons, one granddaughter; and sister, Judith Holliday Clamp of Belton.

A memorial service was held Sunday at the Pelzer Church of God.

LIB GRAHAM

Elizabeth Black Graham, 78, of Starr, widow of G.W. Graham, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Surviving are two sons, James Christopher Couch of Pelzer and Robert “Robbie” Crocker of Belton; daughter, Denise Watkins of Starr; two sisters, Dorothy Turner and Elease Revels, both of Anderson; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Eastview Baptist Church in Belton.

LORINE TIMMS

PELZER – Lorine Guthrie Timms, 95, widow of Alton Timms, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015.

She was twice married, first to the late Clarence Guthrie.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Will Rufus and Cora Elizabeth Rowland.  She was retired from Williamston Manufacturing Company and a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Ansel Guthrie (Melinda) of Anderson, Jimmy C. Guthrie (Linda) of Pelzer, Ray Guthrie (Sharon) of Piedmont; grandchildren, A. Brian, Benji and Candace Guthrie; one great-grandson, Brian Guthrie, Jr.

She was predeceased by eight sisters and three brothers.

Visitation was held from 1:30 – 2:30 Saturday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service followed at 3:00 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

The family is at the home of Ray Guthrie, 109 Sherman Ct., Bentwood II, Piedmont.

GRACE OWENS

Grace Lollis Owens, 96, widow of Roy James Owens, died Thursday, January 15, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Nora Davis Lollis.

She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara McDonald of Piedmont, Patricia Elaine Northway of Piedmont; Virginia Pillsbury of San Angelo, TX; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MAMIE E. DIRTON

Mamie E. Dirton, 91, of Moore, died Thursday, January  15, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Sloan of Woodruff, Shirley Dirton of the home, Faye Dirton of Moore, Tammy Dirton of Wellford, Marlene Dirton of the home, and Darlene Bennett of Rock Hill; sons, J.C. Dirton, Jr. of Moore and Ronald Dirton of Pelzer; brother, Thomas Pinson of Mauldin; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 19 at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

PRINCELLA SMITH

Princella Smith, 88, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 19 at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Piedmont. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

NANCY BURGESS

Nancy Jo Dickerson Burgess, 55, wife of Greg Burgess, of Williamston, died Monday, January 19, 2015.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late John Roland and Annie Lou Webb Dickerson.  She was formerly employed with Robert Bosch Corporation and a member of Washington Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Chris Burgess and Adam Burgess of Williamston; two grandchildren; sister, Patricia Spelts of Pelzer.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 Friday at Washington Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ETHEL WADDELL

Ethel Mae McAbee Waddell, 73, of Fountain Inn, widow of Montague “Monty” Waddell, died Sunday, January 18, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest and Lula Mae Gentry McAbee. She retired from Fork Shoals Elementary School. She was a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church and attended White Oak Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Julie Waddell Brooks of Fountain Inn; brother, Thomas McAbee of Fountain Inn, two grandchildren; and special niece, Ronda Leonard of Fountain Inn.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 21 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

EDWARD ARNOLD COATES

Edward Arnold Coates, 84, of Taylors, husband of Louise Banks Coates, died Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Born in Campobello, he was the son of the late John Bunyan Coates and Lillian Preuett Coates.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired from Milliken.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Brian Coates of Orangeburg; daughter, Julie Coates Sims of Pelzer; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 21 at Edwards Road Baptist Church. Burial followed at Graceland East Memorial Park.

BARBARA STAFFORD SHEPARD

Barbara J. Shepard, 84, widow of Pierre E. Shepard Sr., USAF Retired, died January 19, 2015.

Born in Greenville she was the daughter of the late Anna Hatcher Stafford and the late Walter B. Stafford.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Easley.

She is survived by three children, Anna S. Parks of Simpsonville, Pierre E. Jr. of Alaska, and Julie Shepard of the home; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, January 21 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Piedmont. Interment followed at Graceland West Cemetery.

MITCHELL EDWARD McGEE, SR.

July 20, 1953 – January 18, 2015

Mitchell Edward McGee, Sr., 61, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Mr. McGee was born in Florence, a son of the late Billy Edward McGee and Addie Vermel Tunstall McGee. He was a welder with Vulcraft.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Diane Elizabeth McGee.

Surviving are a son, Mitchell Edward (Jennifer) McGee, Jr. of Florence; a daughter, Tiffany Denise McGee of Greenville; step-children, Angela Harrington of Williamston, Blake (Beth) Murphy of Piedmont, and Brooke (Grady) Watford of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Cole McGee, Nate McGee; step-grandchildren, Matthew Harrington, Andrew Harrington, Tori Murphy, Skylar Murphy, Brooke Murphy, Debbie Brown, Clay Wedgeworth, Colby Wedgeworth, Zac Wedgeworth and Tristen Wedgeworth; three brothers, Charles Wayne (Teresa) McGee of Hartsville, Ralph (Tammy) McGee and Johnny Ray (Tammy) McGee, both of Florence; a sister, Donna J. (Greg) Roerk of Indiana, and his very close friend, Tony Cooper, who was like a brother to him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
