Don Spruell, (R) first lieutenant with the West Pelzer Fire Department received the highest award given by the Anderson County Fire Protection Commission Monday night. West Pelzer Fire Chief David Huff is on the left. The annual county fire chiefs banquet was held at the Civic Center where the award was presented. Spruell was selected Firefighter of the Year at the West Pelzer Department and then nominated for the county award. He was chosen out of five nominees by the Anderson County Fire Chiefs Advisory Board. The award caught Spruell by surprise when his name was called at the dinner.
