JAMES D. “BAM” THOMAS,  JR.

PELZER – James Daniel “Bam” Thomas, Jr., 29, son of James Daniel Thomas, Sr. and Tina Faye Perkins Thomas, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Pelzer are son, Daniel Lexton Thomas of the home; grandparents, Carolyn E. Perkins, Virginia and Joe George, all of Williamston.

Visitation was held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

PALLIE FINLEY

PELZER – Pallie Lollis Finley, 85, widow of Elton L. Finley, to whom she was married for 60 years, died January 24, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late John Harrison and Elizabeth Sargeant Lollis.  Mrs. Finley retired from Fiber Industries and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Vonnie Finley Hopkins of Spartanburg; sister, Nancy Mayfield of Williamston; brother, John Lollis of Pelzer; grandchildren, Skip Hopkins (Kelly) of Donalds, Lee Finley of Pelzer, Andi Hendricks (Will) of Mauldin and Elizabeth Finley (Franklin Robertson) of Pensacola, FL.; great-grandchildren, Will and Luke Hopkins.

She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Finley; and seven siblings.

Visitation was held Tuesday, January 27, from 2:00 until 3:00 at New Hope Baptist Church.  The funeral followed at 3:00 at the church. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

NORMAN KING, SR.

Norman Kirkwood King, Sr., 92, of Greenville, husband of the late Grace Welborn King, died Saturday, January 24, 2015.

He retired from the United States Air Force, and worked for E-Systems and later with Barbecue King Industries. He was a member of Tremont Church of God.

He is survived by his two sons, Norman King, Jr. and Bret King of Greenville; two step children, Billie Joe Roberts and Walter J. Branton, Jr.; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service was held Tuesday, January 27, graveside at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

NETA NELSON

Neta Cox Nelson, 94, of Piedmont, widow of Paul Samuel Nelson, died Thursday, January 22, 2015.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Cornelius and Neta Patterson Cox.  She was retired from J.P. Stevens Piedmont Plant and a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Doug Nelson, Mike Nelson, Roger Nelson, Jimmy Nelson, all of Piedmont, Joe Nelson of Kathleen, GA; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

A private graveside service was held at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CLARA RUTLEDGE

A service to honor the life and legacy of Ms. Clara Ledbetter Rutledge was held Sunday, Jan. 25 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her son Douglas Rutledge of the home; and sister, Ida Webb of Enfield, CT.

She was the daughter of the late James and Esther Collins Ledbetter. She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Rutledge.

CHERRY IRDELL BRINSON HUNNINGS

Cherry Irdell Brinson Hunnings, 79, widow of Rev. Eugene A. Hunnings Jr., died Saturday, January 24, 2015.

Born in Pamlico County, NC she was a daughter of the late Oswald I. and Gladys Keel.

She was a homemaker and a member of Landmark Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Ann Williams of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Eugene Alfred Hunnings, III of Williamston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Gibbs of Bayboro, NC.

Funeral service was held Jan. 26 in the chapel at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery West.

JAMES THURMAN MORTON

James Thurman Morton, 84, husband of Delia “Dee” Mae Anders Morton, died Monday, January 26, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Furman Morton and Lida Mae Sanders Morton Doran. He retired from Indian Head Yarns and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Romona M. Candler of Piedmont; son, Greg Morton of Piedmont; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday, January 28 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

WADE C. “PEE WEE” KIRK

Wade C. Kirk (Pee Wee) died January 26, 2015 at a nursing facility in Mount Pleasant.

He was born in Simpsonville to Bedford C. and Gracie McCarty Kirk.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Christine Kirk of the home; brother, George M. Kirk of Piedmont.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy.

He was co-owner of the Ritz Barber Shop in Greenville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 30 at Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenburg Blvd., North Charleston, SC 29407.

Memorials may be made to Northridge Baptist Church.

ROSA HARRISON

Rosa Watson Harrison, age 93, of West Pelzer, died January 26, 2015 at her home.

She was the wife of Wideman Glenn Harrison, Jr., currently a patient at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Surviving  are a daughter,  Mary Ann Anderson of Anderson; and two grandchildren;  brothers, James Watson, Bill Watson; sisters, Verna Morris, Ojetta Breazeale, Nannie Sadowski, Jean Shaw and Vera Bagwell.

She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 30 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
