Authorities are still investigating a shooting incident Saturday on Hwy. 8 near Pelzer in which a Greenville man fired at deputies and return fire from a deputy resulted in the suspects death. A Greenville County Coroner identified the deceased as Chazsten Noah Freeman, 24, of Greenville.

According to the sheriff’s office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputies deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:10 p.m. in reference to a theft that just occurred at Stewart Fishing Store, located at 101 Steward Lake Road in South Greenville County.

The 911 caller told dispatch that the suspect had left the area on foot. According to the sheriff’s office, responding deputies were familiar with the suspect from past incidents and from an incident on February 21 when he attempted to run over deputies after fleeing from them in a car.

A deputy returned fire striking the suspect at least one time. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.
