West Pelzer residents frustrated or inconvenienced by this winter’s abundance of rain, snow and wind will be allowed an extra two months to burn their yard debris, if an amended ordinance proposed by the Town Council receives second reading approval next week.

A bare quorum of three members attended a special called meeting Monday night to give first reading approval and to accelerate the process in order to provide adequate time for the town’s people to burn their debris.

The amended ordinance, which is in effect only for the period between now and May 31, will allow burning on every Wednesday and Saturday until May 31. At that time, the existing ordinance will go back into effect, though Council has indicated that it intends to revisit the ordinance in the coming weeks.

Another special called meeting to give final approval will be held at 6:30 next Monday, March 23.
