The West Pelzer Town Council held a special called meeting Monday night in order to give final approval to an amendment to the town’s burning ordinance.

Residents had complained that the wet and windy winter recently experienced had drastically impacted the number of days on which leaves and other yard debris could be burned. They sought additional days through an extension of the permitted burning interim.

The amended ordinance, which is in effect only for the period between now and May 31, will allow burning on every Wednesday and Saturday until May 31. At that time, the existing ordinance will go back into effect, though Council has indicated that it intends to revisit the ordinance in the coming weeks.

The town’s second phase of the sewer system upgrade takes the next step towards beginning with a bid opening for the project, to be held at the Town Hall next Tuesday, March 31, at ten a.m.
