Suzette Cornish, media clerk at Ralph Chandler Middle School, was named the South Carolina Media Paraprofessional of the Year during the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) conference in Columbia. The Media Paraprofessional Award recognizes the exemplary performance of a paraprofessional who directly supports the media profession.

Ms. Cornish has served as media clerk at Ralph Chandler Middle School in Simpsonville for more than six years, and has previous library experience in New York. She is manager of the school website and is proficient at providing technology support for teachers and students.

As a member of the school’s Technology Committee, Ms. Cornish has been invaluable at offering recommendations regarding the purchase of new technology to support instruction. Her outgoing personality and friendly attitude make her an asset to the library, the faculty, staff and student body at Ralph Chandler Middle School.

Media Specialist Candace Walton describes her as indispensable, and Principal Rita Mantooth praises Ms. Cornish, saying, “I have found Ms. Cornish to be enthusiastic, articulate and well-versed in using and supporting various technologies. She is generous with her time, whether she is assisting students or staff members, and she pursues every assignment until the challenge is resolved.”
