Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested Dakota Chance Chitwood, 17, of Belton in connection with a Tuesday afternoon pursuit in Anderson which resulted in a wrecked police cruiser and ended with the vehicle hitting a residence.

Around 1:45 pm Tuesday, a deputy patrolling in the area of Highway 28 Bypass spotted a Ford Excursion which matched the description of a vehicle that had been reported stolen early this morning from a residence in Anderson County.

The driver of the Ford, later identified as Chitwood, attempted to evade the officer and a pursuit ensued. Near the intersection of Jackson Street and Stone Drive, Chitwood swerved toward the patrol vehicle, causing the deputy to leave the roadway and strike an embankment.

Chitwood continued on Jackson Street but wrecked the Ford into the porch of a residence on Boston Drive. Other responding deputies, who quickly arrived on-scene, took Chitwood into custody.

Both the deputy and Chitwood were transported to AnMed for medical treatment. The deputy was later released. Chitwood remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Charges against Chitwood are pending.
